Icon5 Help! Engine Restarts

Hey all,

I've been running into some trouble with my '97 Type SH lately. Once in a blue moon, the engine will cut dead, then immediately restart. During all of this, the power remains on, nothing happens except the engine dies and immediately comes back to life. To make things weirder, this happens in twos; it does it once, and then maybe again in 5 minutes and otherwise rarely happens. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this and how to fix it? Thank you!

Re: Help! Engine Restarts

Go to your local Honda dealer, VIN in hand and see if your ignition switch has been replaced.
It was a recall that Honda did back then and if it's the original switch:
1) they'll replace it at their cost
2) it'll likely solve the issue you described.

Re: Help! Engine Restarts

The ignition recalls on the prelude only applied to the automatic models, not manuals, so your vehicle wont apply the recall he just mentioned. That being said, i dont have any answers to your problem right now. Gl

Re: Help! Engine Restarts

An update:

I checked on my car's recall - turns out the ignition switch has already been replaced. Hopefully it hasn't gone bad again. I also double-checked my spark plugs - no cracks or anything out of the ordinary on those. I also re-heated all of the solder points on my main relay in case any of the contacts were bad. Still no luck!

Any other ideas anyone?

Re: Help! Engine Restarts

My car had similar problems.

My recall was already done by the previous owner. So I couldn't take it to Honda without paying. So I just bought the ignition switch from O'Reilly for $35. Installed it myself and my car has been running fine ever since.

The switch I took out was melted and covered with gunk. No winder my car would constantly die and have trouble restarting. There was no contact left.
