H22a VTEC Solenoid Help

Hey guys so my VTEC solenoid went out a few days ago. Not oil levels or anything, it's just done...any recommendations on brands/sites? Any help would be great.

Re: H22a VTEC Solenoid Help

OEM is always good. Sites like oemacuraparts.com, hondapartsnow.com etc. are pretty helpful. Unfortunately you're looking at around $300 for the whole assembly, or about $130 for just the solenoid at the top. Rockauto.com has and OEM replacement one as well but it's over $400.

The solenoid and the seals are the only parts on these things that tend to fail, you might be able to pick up a working assembly at a junkyard and throw some new seals in it for a fraction of the cost.

The only "aftermarket" one I've seen is the Skunk2, it is just a solenoid cover and valve housing, you actually have to re-use your own solenoid, gaskets, sensor and internals. If yours is indeed fried then this won't help. In fact I do not see any reason why someone would buy one of these without using the word "bling".

Re: H22a VTEC Solenoid Help

I changed the solenoid gasket and VTEC is working. I don't think it had ever been changed because it was so brittle, it broke when pulling it out. Also, the screen was partially clogged.
