Need help with wheel fitment on my new prelude

I bought a 98 Prelude and am wanting to put new wheels and tires. I am looking at STR 17x9 with +20 offset. I plan on running them with stock suspension for now but mildly lowering it in the future. Will these wheels work and if so what would be the best tire size choice. I do not want to run into rubbing issues.

No, a 17x9 +20 will not fit without massive modification to the fenders and issues with rubbing. Most of the preludes I've seen running a 17x9 have a tiny 205/40 tire stretched over and have rolled/pulled the fenders to get them to tuck. With such a wide rim, low offset and stock suspension it'll look like a monster truck too.

It can be done, but it won't be easy.

What size wheels would give me the most "flush" look without rubbing. I can get the fenders rolled if needed.

If you roll the fenders on a prelude with stock suspension you will look like a clown. Do some research wheels are something that you want to be happy with for a long time. Also factor in if you want to lower the vehicle and have that flush look, cause you wont realistically get it with O.E. suspension.

Re: Need help with wheel fitment on my new prelude

I have been doing tons of research and just cant seem to find any wheels the right size. Everything I can find is 17x9 and bigger with low offset. I really like the looks of this one. Anyone have any idea what wheels these are and how much other mods are done?
Front :17 x 8.0 +35 215 / 40
Rear : 17 x 9.0 +35 215 / 45

Re: Need help with wheel fitment on my new prelude

check out these wheel brands.
Konig, Enkie, XXR, TSW.

Also if you go to DiscountTire.com you can plug in the vehicle and it will show you some options for you to look at.

Re: Need help with wheel fitment on my new prelude

How does this setup sound?
Tein S Tech lowering springs 1.5" drop
XXR 531 17x8 +35 offset front and rear
205/40 or 215/ 40 tires
What problems will I run into with this setup? I also am considering the XXR 530 17x7 + 35 or the XXR 522 17x8+48 if they would fit any better.

Re: Need help with wheel fitment on my new prelude

I had 17x7, 40 offset

front rubbed the inside on tight turns and the rears just cleared the inside of the quarter lip when the car had a full tank or some tools in the trunk

205/45/r17 i want to say the tire size was... but not positive

A better thing to consider vs wheels/tires....and bacon fenders...

How's your maintenance?

I have taken care of the mechanical issues the car has when I bought it. Never imagined it would be so hard to figure out what size wheels I need haha. Really need to figure this out so I can order them. Only thing holding me back. There seems to be extremely limited wheels offered that will fit the prelude.

There are actually many wheel options for 5th gens. It's hard to tell that due to everyone going for the same style wheels....
