car wont start. have tried everything. please help

First of havent had the prelude long. The day after i bought the car it did the same thing wouldnt start for a day or if it did it would go get to 2k and die. Next day start after maybe 10 seconds of cranking.. Now she runs good for a week or so and does the same thing. So its running on a p28 so i switch back to the factory ecu and wait a day she starts after a little bit of cranking. Drive for a couple days bamm same thing wont start one morning. So after trying for a day or so i switch back to the p28 and she starts the next day and i drive her for about another week.. Now to the present day i let her sit for 2 days and go to start and same thing cranking and cranking but nothing just kinda hiccups sometimes.

Things i have tested are main relay( no cracked solder joints and making clicking sounds) fuel( cracked banjo fitting at fuel rail and had someone crack and watched fuel come out) spark( tested each cylinder with light bulb tester ) and last battery ( tested voltage )

Please any suggestions would be much appreciated this is my first prelude. My next thing will be a compression test. My thoughts would be even if i had a low cylinder wouldnt it still start tho? Just run like **** and smoke right?

The first thing I would try is the Distributor cap. If the cap is old it will short internally and not start or start poorly when it gets humid outside. If you get a new cap and it doesn't help it hasn't cost you much and a new cap is a good thing to have anyway.

The second thing is the spark plug wires. If they are old and have some cracks they also will short when it get humid. Make sure they are not rubbing on anything. If they are old it wouldn't hurt to have new ones anyway even if it doesn't fix the problem.

These might not be the problem but the are the easiest an cheapest to check. Good luck.

The fact that it's doing the same thing with either of the ECU's indicates the problem lies within the ignition system itself. This past summer when I noticed my '00 was long cranking from time to time and would bust up, miss and then finally wouldn't start, I pulled the coil. In the backside facing the firewall at the 6 o'clock position was a split in the coil case. I've also got a buddy of mine who has seen the rotor buttons arc through the rotor to the distributor shaft. Rare but it occurs. As it turned out, mine with 125k on the clock got a new coil and has never run better. Of course the distributor itself may have issues, but these are some of the more obvious and lesser expensive things you can try first. Good luck.
