5th gen turns off by itself. HELP!

hey guys, I've had my prelude for about 8 months now. Its had this problem where the engine will cut out randomly while driving however if I turn the key it comes back on like nothing happened. In the first six months of owning my prelude that happened 3 times. It's been sitting in the garage for a couple months being resprayed and when I finally took it out for a drive it cut off again 4 times with 20 minutes. I took it into my mechanic and he thinks it's a problem with the computer and to take everything out and fix it will cost around $700.

Has anyone experienced anything like this in their prelude before?

P.S. I have my suspicions that the problem has got something to do with a faulty immobiliser just because it's had problems in the past with being very fidgety to get it started.

What happens when it stops moving? Is it a stall or complete shutdown?

I'm always the final owner of any prelude I own.

I'd rather lose by a mile because I built my own car than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

I don't think it would be your immobilizer, it would be odd for it to be able to start up right after an immobilizer malfunction.

Re: 5th gen turns off by itself. HELP!

Go to honda.com, find the owners segment and type in your vin. It'll show weather your ignition recall was satisfied by installing a replacement. If it is not mentioned yours was not done yet.

Every now and then the replacement fails. If yours has not been replaced your local dealer will replace it at their expense.

Sometimes the key and imobilizer lose contact with each other. But the ignition switch was recalled because cars were doing what yours is due to a wiring issue.

If memory serves it was recalled due to a potential fire hazard.

Ignition switch! I had the exact same issue. It's like a EMP went off right? If that's the case it's definitely he ignition. I Replaced the fuel pump for no reason. It's really easy to do yourself, make sure it oem.
