Sighhh... vtec issues

My vtec kicks hard but it will only run smooth if i slowly roll into it. Say im starting from a stop and hit it first gear will be smooth till 7500 but once i slam into second it jerks the car like its surging in and out of vtec until it gets to about 6300 then it will be smooth same for the rest of the gears. i cant figure out why. any suggestions ?
