Is this common?... wtf.. I see kits to convert it to a manual tensioner, but idk.. I don't know if it happened when I was removing the timing cover, or if this it what caused my engine to be knocking in the first place... I did hear a pop when I was taking a bolt off that I thought was holding the timing cover on, but not sure.. It would make sense that I did this as I was taking it off.

Nice searchin'.

Sooo..you're going with a different tension setup, then? I'd encourage it.

Well I see that it's the route to go for sure, but do you think I broke this by unbolting the 10mm bolt before undoing the other one?

I haven't messed with that part for a long time but if I remember correctly, it has some play in it if there's no tension being applied to it. And honestly from the pic I can't see where it's broken.

Take a little at where the main 14mm bolt screws in. It has pulled from the block bringing a chunk with it. This picture should help:

Re: Pulled my H22 because of a slight knock.. Took timing cover off, what's this?...

You broke part of the block where that 14mm bolt goes.

The 10mm you were attempting to remove is not meant to be removed prior to the entire idler being removed.

The entire piece is the idler pulley setup for the auto tensioner - also used with the kazinspeed manual tensioner.

From the looks of it, you still have an auto tensioner, and now a motor without timing tension prior to being set to TDC and a broken bolt hole.

For some reason I haven't been able to see any of your pictures. The links to them say they're routed to HTTPS so maybe that's why
