Icon5 P0420 and P0430

I drive a 2000 SH, rides well and no symptoms but the check engine light and ATTS lights are on. I had the check engine light read and it popped up P0420 and p0430 codes. First, I know the 420 is the converter, I asked my mechanic and he said he could get it done for around $250, but I don't know what 430 is. Any idea? I looked it up but not very thoroughly because of time. Second, I don't know anything about ATTS, any help or advice is appreciated. I know these issues don't really need to be fixed ASAP

Re: P0420 and P0430

p0420 and p0430 are both codes for catalytic converter performing below threshold. p0430 is for a bank2 catalyst, that's funny your car would throw that code. Your car more than likely needs a new catalytic converter but that DTC could have set by chance from a bad bit of gas you filled up with. I would recommend having the code initially erased and just see if it comes back before going ahead and having your cat replaced. hope this helps and let us know what you come up with !

Re: P0420 and P0430

You should have noticed some hold back on your engine because a bad cat restricts flow from your engine to your exhaust.
Do you know if the catalytic converter is bolt on or universal? Used?
If its universal then imo you are being ripped off.
If you don't live in Cali you can find a brand new bolt on converter for around $230 and you can do it all yourself considering its all bolts and nuts.
Another note is that if you go the bolt on route it is a lot easier to modify your exhaust. All you would need is a catback. As suppose to going to universal route you would have to weld on custom piping(if you want a mean sounding exhaust) and an axle back exhaust.
They are both around the same price range. If not the catback route is a little bit more $$$.
But it is all preference. It is up to you what route you'd like to go to.
As to ATTS, it stands for active torque transfer system. Say you are taking a hard left on a corner, the ATTS will transfer more power to you outer wheel making it easier for you to turn.
ATTS is very useful for if you wanna take corners aggressively, or if you go autoX one day.
Hope this helps!
