ATTS ecu?

So apparently my last thread was me being an idiot and not realizing something could be so small, this one may fall under the same category, but here goes nothing.

According to my mother, she wasn't supposed to tell me this but the previous owner just unplugged the atts? He said he did it so I wouldn't crash since apparently he has had some previous event occur (atts activated in rain and he almost wrecked?).

So from what I gathered, me being cat less has nothing to do with my atts not working, it's simply unplugged? Where and how would I "plug" it back in. From the little research I've done the atts runs on it's own ecu, which then "talks" to the main ecu? I also heard it's right beside the main ecu (under passenger footwell carpet?)...

Sorry I'm not real techy, I would just like this 3000$ piece of equipment to work.

Re: ATTS ecu?

I didn't like those manuals. That one I found that was all in one and indexed so you can find stuff easy is nice. I was going to link it again earlier but it is down now.

It's next to the ecu from what the manual says. I haven't looked on my SH. I know the manual makes removing the door handle seem easy. It didn't get easy until I put a cutoff wheel on my pencil grinder and fed it through the hole to cut the link.

Re: ATTS ecu?

So it is beside the main ecu? Under the metal plate underneath the carpet? I looked down there but left the plate on as I didn't have any tools near me and didn't want to do it at night, in Floridas humid weather...

I heard that metal cover is fairly hard to pull off, any tricks?

Re: ATTS ecu?

It's nuts/bolts, carpet and panels.

Call me a debbie downer but maybe this guy is FOS as to why the atts light is on? Have you jumped the service plug so it spits codes yet?

I just got a SH that "had no problems with the atts and it was replaced under warranty early on". Well after sitting without a battery it shows a couple codes. I'm blaming it on it needs to get re-acquainted and ran for now unless they save codes after a while without power. It sure hasn't gotten new readings.

As far as about wrecked in the rain. 12.5" tires on a vehicle that weighs the same as these preludes with a higher center of gravity can about wreck when they hydroplane also. All it has is lsd in rear.

Some of the reports of cutouts does worry me.

FOS? Does your light come on? Because when I put the key in the atts light doesn't even show up... Strangely however, the abs light shows but I have locked the brakes up many times by accident.

Re: ATTS ecu?

FOS = full of ****. sit in your passenger seat and look at the radio. Now look down to the side of it and you will see a little carpeted panel. Stick your fingers in behind it from the front and pull it towards the door. Should be a service plug and a 2 pin blue plug behind it. Use a peper clip, wire or a forked terminal end that fits and short those two wires in the blue plug. Now turn your key to the position before start. Count the flashes slow is first digit fast is second.

If it doesn't show at all you may need to pull the cluster and put in a new bulb. If abs stays lit normally or starts flashing when you short that plug then it means it has issues.

Re: ATTS ecu?

What is under that piece? I've looked at it several times but don't know what it's for, even after I looked for it online. Can't look at those manuals either because my wifi is out and I'm running on minimal data.

Edit: I hate to sound so uninformative but this is my first car and have no prior experience, my mothers Si hasn't given us a single major issue yet.

Re: ATTS ecu?

I can't watch that anytime soon, school gives me no free time and my wifi isn't working at home, but I will try to find some time. I thank you for the effort of finding it.

I feel like I'm in a hostile environment here, kinda uneasy bout it.

Re: ATTS ecu?

I don't feel welcome yet is all, like I've gotten a lot of negativity from my stay here. 8th Civic has served me well, but they are clueless about Preludes.

Re: ATTS ecu?

The atts engaging will not cause you to crash. It will enhance your traction when going around a curve. That po was fos! But plugged in or not, your car will run the same. It engages when it senses you are about to lose traction in a corner or curve. Think of it like turning in a wheel chair. You go to turn a corner in a wheelchair, in order to make it, one wheel goes faster than the other. You wanna go left, your right wheel goes faster than the left wheel in order to turn.

When your atts is unplugged nothing happens.

Most folks unplug them when sensors on the wheels start causing the atts lamp to light.

Did you buy that 3rd gen you talked about a while ago?

No some kid at my school bought it, painted it primer grey and riced it out... So R.I.P. Another Lude. I see it daily and it gets worse every time. I'm surprised you remember that haha!

Re: ATTS ecu?

Well the SH is a fine choice.

Time for a little soap box, then some how to stuff.
First off this is the coolest of the cool places for Prelude cars. However things have changed over time. The long timers who were into their cars, dating hot chix and generally living a life of hijinx (look that up) are all growed up, own houses, raise kids and have much less time to spend working on a Prelude..the ones that still have one.
Next, the questions have usually been asked a million billion times by laddies who 'heard' this and that will gain them 300hp for $650 for daily use. That or the questions are by lazy people who don't know zip about cars, but think they do.
Lastly, the Honda Prelude is getting to be endangered and all are at least 13 years old. For reasons cited above this place has become more of a 'how to keep my jallopy going' forum as time passes. The sure enough bad@$$-ers have moved on from that mostly. They invented, they conquered, they moved on. You will to someday.

So what you are left with in your quest is to wait for old crumudgens like oldludedude and myself to try to explain in a way folks from another generation will hopefully understand. Others chime in as well. But traffic (on the answer side) at pz is noticably less these days (thanks to facebook etc) Can't speak for ludedude, but I learn something about my Prelude every time I lift my hood. Far from expert but willing to share know how obtained so far.

Now, stop being so hard on yourself, be patient and learn like the rest of us.

My first hot rods were before internet, cell phones, or any of todays tech. We learned by trial and error (usually error), we hoped the junkyard had parts we needed, and enjoyed our cars when they ran.

^ a picture of the atts system.
This is what all is involved with your atts.
Like I said, if it's unplugged, it aint hurting a thing.
Learn your car. Fix it as you know how.

^^ the atts
Look under your car and see if it's there. If not, a previous owner did you a favor, trust me.

^^ the port
This is what oldludedude was talking about.
The plug you seek is below atts on the driver side. It's a gray (22?) pin connection.
Be careful what you ask for... You plug that sucker back in you may think you just hit the jackpot at a slot machine in Vegas...dingers and lamps galore.

Oh, and put back a cat convertor. Aint worth the damage to your engine for the teeny bit of gain and you are polluting your own air more.

Later Gator

Edit: Add more pix from manuals

^^ the ecu's

^^ two plugs to check

^^ the plug below the atts.

And if not separated from the main ecu properly it can cause abs lamp to show up. The atts is tied into the abs.
