Crankshaft pulley

1997 Prelude - Only couple of issues I'm having right now is the wobbling crankshaft pulley oh-so many of you all seem to have encountered at some point or another. My old one some how came unthreaded and popped off while driving. **** cracked, so I got a new one straight from Honda. Got her on, but she likes to dance a little bit. How do I achieve the 181 ft/lbs of torque. I tried locking the engine with a screwdriver in the starter without success and was then fortunate enough to get my hands on a handmade tool to hold the pulley in place that locks into the hexagonal hole that the bolt goes in the middle of. I haven't tried it yet, but I don't see how I could keep it stationary while taking a breaker bar to the bolt. Also, my idle is low as hell - inbetween 300 - 500 once it warms up, but it NEVER cuts off. Suggestions?????

Re: Crankshaft pulley

Torque wrench that will go that high. Tool to hold the pulley- hex with a hole for socket to go through…typically, you hold that tool with a breaker bar….not a lot of room in there, so good luck.
My approach to cure the problem is old fashioned- safety wire the bolt to the pulley- bolt won't back out again that way- don't think anyone else bothers, but I've been burned twice.

Re: Crankshaft pulley

Look down a few post. I so far fixed mine.

If you are crafty you can make holder for under $5 that will use the half shaft to keep the pulley from spinning.

You can get decent quality torque wrenches at home depot.
