ATTS help?

Hello guys, I recently (2months) became the new owner of a 1999 Prelde SH. One of the issues is that my atts doesn't work. When I put the key in, the abs and brake light come on, but the atts light isn't anywhere to be found. Upon looking at the fuses, I noticed all the fuses were there except number 9 (R/C mirror, abs atts)... The previous owner said I needed a new alternator but for some reason I disagree as the alternator seems to be doing its job. Any help?

Thanks in advance.

Re: ATTS help?

Check under your car and see if the atts is gone.

Many folks take out the atts lamp from the cluster to make it go away when a sensor failure or something causes it to stay on.

My SH has no lamp, because it has no atts anymore. It has a base model tranny and conversion adapter...

Re: ATTS help?

All Gen. Prelude Service Manuals
^^ try the service manual. It has diagrams in chapter 15 or 16..i forget which. It's a little tranny looking thing between your tranny and the driver side wheel.

You aint but so bad off my friend. You knew to check fuses and come here for assistance.

Do your electric mirrors adjust? Put a fuse in #9 and see what happens. Can't hurt. The manual gives fuse sizes for each position. Chapter 23? That's the electrical chapter. But the fuses may be shown near the front of the book. D@m getting old is a drag.

Take a fuse to an auto parts store to ensure you buy the correct size. Buy a multi-pack with puller tool. You'll have to buy 5 amps separately.. there are a couple of 5's in the car and multipacks usually start at 10 amps

Re: ATTS help?

Okay so I was wrong.. It was the catalytic converter not the alternator.. Thing is, I was reading some of the advantages of being without the Cat-verter, of the things mentioned were, increased horsepower (like what, 1-2?), increased mpg (i need that, being a teen), and a more free flowing sound.

My options right now are... Either
A) buy a Catalytic Converter for 40$ and saved atts but suffer in HP and MPG (I may be wrong, read it off the interwebs)

OR

B) remove the ATTS unit, saving around 90lbs increasing performance and mpg but losing the ability to even have atts...

Opinions? And I wouldn't mind going to the base tranny so I could get an LSD but it's not in my budget at all.

Is it MISSING or is it just "stopped up"?

Yeah, removing the CAT will give you more top end, but you will suffer on take-off. An engine needs a certain amount of back pressure due to flow characteristics. One thing to consider, I'm not sure where you live but I don't know of very many states where a modern car is exempt from NOT having a Catalytic Converter, so you are most likely going to have to buy a new one.

And my advise, based on experience is, Don't buy a cheap catalytic converter online. They only put like a 1/4 of the catalyst in those things and you'll be needing a new one in a year. Be sure to buy one from a REPUTABLE store! It might be 4x's as much but it will last at least 10x's as long!

Sounds like something you need to start saving up for. If your transmission is working, stick with it for now... Until you get the funds to do a proper Upgrade.

Re: ATTS help?

Keep the cat. Your performance and mileage won't improve much if any. And smog regs where not present are looming. Won't be long before everywhere has big city smog rules.

ATTS weighs 40#. That's the weight of about 5 gallons of gas.
If you can do the base tranny thing, help yourself. But for now imo you should just fix what's wrong with your car, spruce it up real nice and if down the road a couple years you still have it and want to do the mods, by then you'll know what's bs and what aint.

Re: ATTS help?

I would really like to get into a emissions and efficiency discussion but I've been correcting the people that make this stuff on issues all day. The epa doesn't want efficiency. It wants to stay in business just like the rest of the government. Just enjoy the cheap gas helped by subsidized farming, industry and retail now sold to foreign nations. Wait till people see the cost of the solar and wind debacle. It's coming.

You can lean most engines into a pass I'd say.

^^ are you implying our government is plotting against us?

Nah, they wouldn't do thaaaat.

Hey Kuran,
Go to kteller and check out the 'magnaflow' direct fit cat. It's around $150 but should last like 10 years...that $40 one? Not even close more than likely.

Re: ATTS help?

The 40$ one is a Honda product.. And I don't have to pass tests here so for now I'm fine. I have noticed it lugs a little on take off unless I ride the clutch a little more than usual.. Way more pronounced than mommas Si.
