is it worth putting the money and the time in to switching the camshafts in a stock jdm h22? and how much power would i get out of it?

Re: camshaft switch

Depends on what you want to switch them with. I believe Skunk2 sells "drop in" cams but I wouldn't run anything other than the stock cam on stock springs/retainers. Even though they're drop in cams, you have a higher chance of getting valve float at high rpms. If money and time isn't a issue I'd get aftermarket valve springs/retainers to go along with your choice of cam. I'd stay with a stage 1 cam if your stock. I also recommend getting adjustable cam gears and have them dialed in and tuned if you want the most power out of them.

Re: camshaft switch

A good header and a good 3" exhaust in addition to cams and adjustable cam gears and a tune will do wonders for you.

Re: camshaft switch

any ole header isnt going to complement the addition of camshafts. It all depends on the cams you get and the supporting mods you have that allow the camshafts to do their job better.

IE:

you have a DC header and typical 60mm (2.33 OD exhaust) cat back. those arently going to do much in the area of helping the engine make power.

there are lots of headers out there for our cars, majority of them copies of the good parts but do perform ok for what they are. Just take note that a lot of the stuff you read online in these message forums about exhaust flow, scavenging...etc are not correct and to always be weary of what is posted online.

Re: camshaft switch

I suppose saying "a good header" wasn't specific enough. Merp.

Re: camshaft switch

good depends on who you are talking to.

good could be great to someone who just likes the look of it yet it yields little for performance. good could be a piece of junk because its what they have and dont know any better. All relative :-)
