Re: mk3 supra trade...

Keep the prelude.

Hard enough to find parts to keep that running.

But an 87 toyota, a rare one at that? It'll look fabulous sitting in your driveway while you find a water pump, or electrical stuff.

You will hate it. Even though it's RWD and turbocharged it will move like a slug. 230hp in a 3,600lb car is worse than our cars.

I feel like its mostly an enthusiast car... I've always loved the mk3's and all... I might regret it but the lude I have no has been in an accident, burns almost a quart and a half of oil every change and it has some problems...

Re: mk3 supra trade...

other than that I have no way to appraise the supra... its too old to KBB or Edmund's it... and its quicker than the lude I believe I got on it a little bit and that boost kicked in super quick. and its a wider platform to work work if I want to build it a bit.

It has 30 more horsepower than a Prelude and weighs 650lbs more than a Prelude. How is that not worse? The torque makes up for it's truck weight but after it peaks it will fall flat on it's face.

But in the end it's your choice. It seems like he rebuilt the motor since he says it has 5k miles on it, I would be careful and ask him what he did to it or hopefully a reputable shop did it. I've seen lots of people rebuild motors and screw something up and sell away their problem. I'm not sure on the price, I would never spend 5k on such a old car with that many miles, especially since those Supra's are easy to find.

Re: mk3 supra trade...

How do you figure it weighs 650 lbs more than a Prelude? 4G's weigh in at ~3790 lbs, 5G's weigh in a little heavier. That's heavier than said Mk3 Supra.

You're kidding right? You clearly have no idea what your talking about dude. Do some research and you'll find out a 5spd base 5th gen weighs 2,950lbs.

lol believe it or not when i first starting getting into cars i was told that a good rule of thumb to follow was to look in your door and look at the sticker, find the gvwr and subtract 1,000 pounds and that would be the weight of your car....lol it's usually pretty close for small cars but still B/S either way lol

Just remember they're approaching you for your car not the other way round, unless your absolutely sure your getting the better deal then it ain't worth the swap. And trust me I've swapped enough up to go from a sh!tty old orthia to an integra then to my current sir, If someone wants to swap their car they're avoiding upcoming problems with it, the severity of which you have no idea.

THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING WRONG WITH SWAPPED CARS OTHERWISE THEY WOULNT BE SWAPPED.

Especially a super old turboed Toyota or a BMW. If done right preludes will not only look better but perform better too

I approached the e30 guy... the supra guy approached me... the e30 was essentially supposed to be sold to my friend for $5k but my friend couldn't afford insurance on it and I asked him if he wanted to swap and he said he'd take a look...

What does 'gvwr' mean?
I figure my car weighs what it weighs plus a half tank of gas, a couple of items like quart of oil, coolant, a spare tire, my cigarettes, cell phone, some cd's, my detail brush, car cover a few things illegal to carry and my fat @$$.
Would that be called 'curb weight'?

Re: mk3 supra trade...

gvwr is gross vehicle weight rating...it's what is posted on the inside of the door to basically let you know that hey don't pack this car full of so much crap that it weighs more than this...it's what the car is rated for as far as how much it can safely carry in terms of weight. Curb weight is the car by itself with all the necessary things it needs in order to operate...motor, trans, interior and all the factory stuff basically, no people or the stuff they throw in it...

Re: mk3 supra trade...

GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) is the maximum amount of weight the car can safely carry, including the weight of the car. The curb weight is just the weight of the car. So for a 4G Prelude (roughly 2900 lbs), it has a GVWR of 3790 lbs, meaning you can throw an additional ~900 lbs worth of people and junk in the car (safely).

E30's are sweet to hot rod. What are you planning to do with it? Too bad it's not a two door.
