Prelude won't start

Hello I have a 1998 prelude type sh. Over the course of a month it began bogging down while driving but it would pick up after like 5 seconds. It stopped bogging down but began to shut off every time I would start it. It did it about 10 times, did it once while driving. Now about 2 days ago I went to the store and everything was normal. When I went to leave the car wouldn't start at all. Lights, radio, dash, etc come on but no start. No clicking. Just nothing. Put jumper cables to it just incase and still nothing. Was able to push start it and I got it home. The next day I went to start it and still nothing. Battery is good. So I bypassed the ignition since it is known that they go out on these cars. Connected a wire to battery and tapped on the starter and it fired right up. So I went out and I bought a ignition switch brand new, and put it on. Still nothing. Cat won't start. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance.

New to forums. If I make a mistake please correct me

Re: Prelude won't start

Could have been a combination of faulty ignition switch and starter going/gone bad. Or maybe a main relay?

Re: Prelude won't start

Immobilizer trouble after the switch replacement maybe. Doesn't explain the earlier trouble.

Re: Prelude won't start

Check and make sure that all of your grounds are clean and tight and that all of your connections at your starter are also clean and tight.

Re: Prelude won't start

Either Starter is bad, or the relay going to your starter is locked up. You could use a voltmeter on the power leads going to your starter to see if its getting juice when you turn the key. If not then its a relay or bad ground. If it is then its the starter.

I had a similar problem. But mine wouldn't even make a clicking noise. I went through a couple of troubleshooting tips, tested the battery, every connection to and from the battery, replaced a bunch of stuff, and my final step was what fixed mine and it did the trick which was replace the starter :-/ So I hope that might be the worst case scenario for you

Re: Prelude won't start

Recently ran into this problem roughly three days ago, replaced my starter with an OEM starter from a '99 Prelude, not only was it a pain to get off with that back bolt, started right up with no idle problems.
