Catalytic Converter

My problems are slowly starting to pile.... but no worries.
Original owner cut the cat off the exhaust... Anyone have any ideas on how this is gonna sound until I can replace it.

Re: Catalytic Converter

Silent. Absolutely silent....until you get that engine going.lol

Really hope you don't need this car to commute.

The sound will depend greatly on the rest of the exhaust systems makeup like the muffler.

Re: Catalytic Converter

I have a feeling he means the PO cut the exhaust off and left it hanging open lol. But yeah...forget about the fact that if it was running you would probably give the next door neighbors a headache. Instead just focus on finding out if you have a motor that will even make a sound other than "cling clang ping pong"...because then the only sound you'll be making will sound something like...."Sh!t" lol

Re: Catalytic Converter

What would be the best exhaust setup to look into for my 97. Seeing how there is no cat and would have to be replaced I would go ahead and just run a whole new setup, guessing I can get the car to running order.

Re: Catalytic Converter

Really depends on what kind of money you are looking to spend on an exhaust..but like most things...you get what you pay for

Re: Catalytic Converter

I would think you could find something you would be happy with for anywhere between 500-800..some are cheaper some are more expensive but from what I've seen there's a good selection in that price range. You can also check here.. http://www.preludezone.com/prelude-parts-sale/ ..don't know what they've got in there but doesn't hurt to check it out you can also post what you are looking for here http://www.preludezone.com/prelude-parts-wtb/ and if someone has something that they don't have listed in parts for sale then they can just PM you and you guys can work something out.

Re: Catalytic Converter

Thermal Research makes a nice stainless deal that you can either have custom made (by them) of find at rock auto etc.

If they make it, you're looking at a month turn around (I hear) but it'll be spec'd for you taste in looks, sound and performance.
We are going to use their dual tipped (read factory look) 2-1/4" (57mm) cat back in a project.
Cat-back is around $550.

Re: Catalytic Converter

I got a full GReddy cat-back exhaust on my Lude & I love it! No need to take the catalytic converter off for aggressive sound. The exhaust already does that, but it sounds good... Not annoyingly raspy.

It's not too expensive either. $500 give or take. Last owner put it on.
