KBB is a good resource...to be honest it's better to go by what blue book says than to ask the opinion of a Prelude enthusiast lol they might be a little biased...lol but seriously blue book is a good tool. And X2 on the maintenance records...saw you said he has a list...does it have the mileage listed next to those things said to be accomplished on that list? For instance..Honda recommends the timing belt be changed every 90,000 miles. Good luck to ya man and welcome to pz.

or every 8 years (some says 10 but really do you want to risk it?)

it should have been 5 years ago - so now: asap

and I can imagine that the car needs new clutch soon too

....so it seems that he wants to sell the car because he dont want to pay those big maintenance jobs

usually in those situations people just ask that the seller drops the price - because of upcoming maintenance

doesnt mean that the car is bad - it just need some work

cluch + flywheel ~250$
+ some other seals ~40$
timing belt parts (with some seals and waterpump + tensioners + balance belt + valve cover gasket kit + kaizenspeed manual tensioner) ~560$
+ work

so if he drops the price say that 2k from what hes asking - not that bad deal

Re: New member looking for advice

T: do you really think the seller will knock off $2k?
Would you?

I mean seriously T. The seller aint gonna take away from the price because it may need a clutch. And $560 for timing belt parts? The seller isn't going to pay for the manual tensioner because some guy on some forum says so.

Tim you do what you want, but the bottom line is the car only has 77k miles and if you don't buy it somebody else will if he has a reasonable price.
You just figure on having a timing belt done for $500-800 and possibly have to put in another clutch within a year.

if he wants to sell the car - he will come down. not sure how much but he has to if he wants really sell the car

for example my lude had some rust on back wheel arc - I estimated that fixing that would be something like ~400 so he did came down that from the price what he was asking

oem parts yes

new auto tensioner costs just 40 less than that

seriously: the seller tries to rip off new buyer - almost always - the buyer is fool if he just pays full price when obviously theres things wrong in that car - maintenance is not up to date
