Crank pulley issues

So I have been looking over the forums and see a way to go, but wanted to be sure what I was looking at is accurate in addition to one question.

I was driving my daughter to school today and heard an irregular clicking noise. It intensified slightly by the time I got her to her school and dropped her off. I checked under the hood and the crank pulley was wobbling. Being that I was in the middle of nowhere I had to drive my car back home to get my other vehicle. After getting it home (SLOWLY), I noticed that the p/s belt was hanging and I figure that is because the wobble eventually let it go.

Now to my question. Being that they crank pulley is obviously loose can I just attempt to torque it back on and see if that solves the issues? Do I have to replace since it is most likely worth my time to do so?

A little back story would be that the engine just got swapped and there is the potential that the bolt wasn't tightened all the way. Hopefully the worst case scenario is a new pulley, key, and bolt. I really didn't drive it hard once everything started falling apart because I need my car!

Re: Crank pulley issues

Figure on replacing it. But you may get away with just tightening the bolt.
It's possible the key way it slides onto (which keeps it rotating with the crank) or the slot on the pulley got worn.

Pretty much got flamed for driving like a jackass and was told to slow down. And I'll be damned, slowing down fixed it.

Re: Crank pulley issues

I plan on buying the key, crank pulley, and the bolt, but I was just trying to be sure of that information first.

I also wanted to verify (because there wasn't much information that I saw on it) that these parts are identical for the H23 and the H22 motors. I would rather not use the "trial and error" method that I saw suggested. I also don't want to buy them just to find out that one will not fit the other.

I attached the page from Majestic Honda that I was able to pull up.

Re: Crank pulley issues

if by 22 and 23 you mean the 23 vtec yes the 22 pulley is the same one . if you mean the h23 non vtec than im not sure .. my guess would be yes . but for a fact the 22 and 23 vtec are the same . ive swapped the 22 pulley onto more than one 2.3 and kept the power steering the 23 vtec cars all had electric steering and were only a single row pulley . hope this helps

Re: Crank pulley issues

A voice in the woods here…..
I safety wire my Crank Bolt to my Crank Pulley…
That after 2-3 times of the pulley, and pulley blot coming loose (despite the bolt being properly torqued).
