need your help guys

hi i guys I'm thinking of purchasing a 2001 honda prelude from a private dealership. It is an automatic transmission (please don't bash) and is driven 167,000km. The dealership is giving a 3 year powertrain warranty on the car you guys think its worth buying it for 4,400 plus tax? I'm looking for a sporty coupe for college i liked the prelude because it looks awesome and the gas milage is good too. The only other cars Im thinking of buying are mustang gt, camaro z28, or pontiac firebirds v8's of course but the gas milage is going to suck...

If i should not get the prelude what other cars would you recommend my budget is around 5k.

Also i don't plan to mod the prelude if i get it gonna keep it stock and probably gonna sell it in 3 years.

Re: need your help guys

can't drive manual and I tried a couple of times and did not like it. I need to know if it is worth buying the 2001 auto prelude if the dealer is giving me a 3 year powertrain warranty for no extra charge. I also plan on selling the car in 3 years after college.

lol...that is not a question to ask here...if you have a chance to get a lude...then get one.

If you've already bought, then i hope you went with the powertrain deal due to the auto tranny being bad on the ludes...a swap isn't really that bad..just finding parts...

I only say this because I have experienced the extreme deformity that is the automatic transmission in our preludes....you have a 3 year warranty...but you wanna sell it in 3 years...I don't know off the top of my head what the value of your prelude is but I do know for a fact that in 3 years it won't be worth what it is today...I also know for a fact that today it costs somewhere around 2k to get a quality rebuild on an automatic trans (unless you luck up and find a used one but even then that's a gamble) but 3 years from now that will probably be more. So just know that you can buy that prelude and drive it but if that trans goes out and it's past that warranty date you're either gonna have a pretty yard ornament or anywhere between 1500-2200 more into the car. The point I'm trying to make to you is...please..for your sanity's sake...buy a 5 speed...lol good luck man

Re: need your help guys

Buy it. Buy it now!!!

You can get aftermarket warranty insurance later. You'll have three years to learn stick if you choose to. Type T is our resident Oscar the grouch. He frowns a lot.

Lazarky there has 218k miles on his auto tranny.
Learn why they fail. Avoid long trips and keep fresh Honda atf in the box.

See coming to pz has made you smarter already haha but seriously in my opinion in the end its the only way to go, easier to maintain, cheaper to maintain...and flat-out more fun to drive...not ragging on auto ludes I've had one and when it was working right i didn't have any complaints but sweet lord when it went it was a nightmare. anyway good luck to you on your search for a 5 spd and hopefully we'll see some pics of your new prelude before long
