4th gen & 5th gen stock intake the same?

I need to know if the 4th gen & 5th gen preludes use the exact same stock intakes? I have to pass a smog test. One of the things causing me to fail is a hole in the bottom in the intake. It's actually not even the whole intake, just the bottom part that the air filter sits on.

My car is 5th gen (99, base) I know someone with a 4th gen who said I can borrow his intake so I can pass my smog test. So obviously it would have to be the same for that to work, and being close probably wouldn't cut it, because if the smog guy notices any differences at all, he could fail me again.

Since you have one available, test-fit it and let us know. If that doesn't work (or even if it does), try patching the hole in your intake with a little fiberglass.

I've seen post of people using the type S 5th gen intake on 4th gens successfully, so you should be able to make it work.

You guys are forgetting something though. I'm sure it will work, but what I want to know if its identical. I don't want to go pay for a smog test, then have it fail because it is slightly different (even though it fits on there), then have to get the correct one and pay again for a smog test.

California. we have the strictest emission regulations in the country. It sucks.

I didn't even see the hole until today. It's super small, like half the size of a dime/penny

Car-parts.com

Find a used 4th gen unit there and be done with it.

Your inspector must be a former nascar restrictor plate inspector, sheez-awe-mighty.

Re: 4th gen & 5th gen stock intake the same?

Pic of the hole? Did something use to be there or is it a tear/rip? Both models use the same filter, and both are routed to the same location and pull air from the same place so I'm pretty sure they're the same. Unless this hole you talk about used to have something connected to it, then you might have a problem.

Done that, twice. Obvious aftermarket stuff they check for CARB compliance, but unless it looks scabbed on, they can't tell one Honda part from another.

The inspector that found it thinks it was a rat or some other small animal that chewed through it. Also, whatever it was broke a vacuum line

Cool. I looked at the pictures they look damn close, but slightly different, so hopefully it'll work. I found a relatively cheap cold air intake on eBay (actually suggested by another member here @ prelude zone) So Think I'm going to get that with a better filter/velocity stack and call it a day. But that will be post inspection.
