Hey guys i need help with a question

so i want to buy a 5th gen, the car is clean, and i want it badly. the only thing throwing me off is that the engine sounds like this.

now im wondering what could be causing that noise. spun bearing? and should i attempt to fix it or run away. (im not scared of getting my hands dirty, just wanna know if it would be worth the $$) i need help with this choice. its a 2000 prelude base with an h22a4 motor 5 speed.

Re: Hey guys i need help with a question

Lol ok I guess you are using the civic vid just to compare what the actual engine sounds like in the prelude? I'll make it short and sweet...pick option #2...(run away) Unless of course the guy is just giving it away and you can just buy another motor. If the h22 sounds like that civic in the vid it's not gonna be long before you have a hole in the block you can put your hand through lol. Oh and that is rod knock you are hearing by the way..as in connecting rod about to break and smash through the block . Good luck man

So, if you don't mind me asking, when you say that yeah he is basically giving it away what is he selling it to you for? Also..the mods to the car...are they quality brand name parts? I mean we're not talking about a 5th gen lude with a rod knock full of ebay parts are we?

If the seller wants $ like it has a good engine, don't do it.
9998 is spot on.

Re: Hey guys i need help with a question

just spend the money on your 4th gen, they are the best gens imo.

most aggressive looking, throw in an h22 and you will scare 5th gen owners lol.

seriously though, 5th gens are the most girly looking of the preludes, sad it won sports car of the year every year produced. definitely should of been the 4th gen si vtec.......... i do like 5th gens, to a certain extent, however, when i see a really nice 4th gen, i drool and dream, when i see a really nice 5th gen i just think thats its a nice car, but still really girly looking. dont mean to offend anyone driving 5th gens, this is just my opinion.

Re: Hey guys i need help with a question

yea i was just thinking, i know my car already from top to bottom. i dont know if he installed really good mods or not. iv seen some of the mods like aem, sub, header. but thats about it i didnt ask about the others only what i saw. but since i already found a short block for cheap, i can find a nice head to go with it and put it in my lude like project said. then i can start working on the looks.

Are you seriously calling Type T's car a girlie car?

And it was the Type SH model that got all the awards because it slalom-ed so well and was a pretty radical car vs the others of the time.
4th gen was a great car and performed well. But judges couldn't get over the dashboard and those dorito tail lights. It was too far ahead of it's time in many peoples eyes after the popular looks of the 2nd & 3rd gens.
By 96 America and the world was over the Prelude so Honda tried to cross a 3rd gen with an Accord for the 5th gen. We know the rest of the story.
You look around today and there are many automobiles that resemble the 4th gen prelude.

So it had an aem intake..and a header..a sub doesn't count as a mod...that's an accessory...a mod imo is something that does or at least has the capability of improving performance...if he's calling it a mod that'd just be another reason I wouldn't buy it lol everytime someone says they've added a "mod" I usually respond with a good ole eye roll. Just know what you're getting into man, at least give the car a good look over...maybe you'll find more "mods"...lol good luck man

Re: Hey guys i need help with a question

lol i mean i didnt look into it more. i didnt take off the valve cover but he was talking bout better cams on it and what not, lsd tranny, but since the engine sounds like that im not going to waste my time trying to find out anymore. i found someone locally selling a complete block for 200$! but i dont have the damn money. i can drop that in my lude which only has the f22 right now.

Re: Hey guys i need help with a question

well it's certainly your call man but if you are on any kind of a budget, i don't think that there are too many of us who aren't lol, and you've already got a lude that you can play with that may be the better option. Like i said before it really depends on how much he wants for it and how much you're willing to put into it, money and time. but hey maybe you're onto something with your new find. good luck man

Re: Hey guys i need help with a question

So you haven't answered the question on how much this guy is asking for the lude? That would help with the response. Also you just said you would trade your lude for it. What is his asking price?

If he's like the people i deal with around here he'll think his is worth more than yours even with a crapped out motor and won't do cash on top. But anyway I didn't know you were talking about trading...if it were me and I had a lude that i knew was a solid dependable ride and i came across another lude that i wanted...if i just had to have it i would buy it outright, i'm not much for trading...of course you've got a headstart because you pretty much realize it needs a motor but at the same time there could be other unknowns and if you end up getting in over your head you're gonna be kicking yourself for trading your car that you know you like. If you buy it outright and it turns out to be a bust hey you still got your other lude. Like i said I'm just not a fan of trading usually... but its whatever.. ya know? lol
