Time For A New Starter.

Greetings my fellow Luders! So last night my car decided it did not want to turn on anymore. I called AAA for a tow, When the driver arrived he suggested tapping the starter. My lude turned on and I got to drive it home!

I called honda dealer to get a price of starter and they said it costs over $1000.00 Yikes! Can this be true? Here is the part #31200-P5M-014

When I searched ebay with that part # there is a huge variety of starters for much less moneys. Also autozone and oreillys have starters aswell.

Does anyone have any experience with the ebay/autozone/oreillys starters? Because I dont see myself spending a grand on this.

Re: Time For A New Starter.

Thanks for the reply. I understand removal and installation is not that hard. But as far as best replacement option? Which should I buy? Im leaning towards one of these but am not sure if there any good.

Re: Time For A New Starter.

Some of the auto store units have great warranties. If it fails you just pull it off and swap for another. Easier said than done, but $1000? @ the honda dealer?!? That's nuts

What?

Pony up the bucks for the warranty swap starter. New starters don't come with factory heat shields and the heat kills the starter fast. And you take 20-35$ off if you return your busted starter for a core... Double win

Re: Time For A New Starter.

Fatcat I got the duralast in the link and has been working great for almost a month cant say how long it will last but it has lifetime ONE time replacement warranty...

Before you change your starter MAKE sure you clean the mating surface of the starter and the tranny, I have seen alot of starters not crank bc of bad grounding...

Re: Time For A New Starter.

So the car has been off for a few days and it turned on just fine this morning! I took it to get washed and filled up the gas tank. Do you guys think I should still change the starter or could there be another problem?

And it's good to see someone using the duralast one. If this happens again ill def do the swap. Thanks again to everyone that replied.
