'99 lude'n in Edmonton Cold air intake?

So... I picked up a lude with a nearly prefect body and interior. The problems I found were 1. Leaking oil like a siv. 2. A/C didn't work. 3. Auto tranny would make a burning smell when shifted in manual, driven hard, 'possibly slipping but not sure, shifted kinda crappy, sluggush #4. general running a bit rough
What I knew about the car was it was owned by an older lady who did zero maintenance on it.
So...
Problem 1...
Oil was black... changed it to Royal Purple 15w30, put in a bottle of Rislone Rear Main seal, just to be sure...
Problem 2... Recharged the A/C with R134
Problem 3... Took it to Mr. Lube and had the the tranny flushed and filled with Honda ATF and put some random auto tranny conditioner in.
Problem 4... Put in new NGK plugs, NGK wires and a new distributor cap.

Since then, I put about 500 miles on. Washed the underside of the car first. Zero oil leaking, burning, or otherwise being lost, A/C working great, tranny shifts smooth and and fast, no smell even when bagged shifting manually, engine is peppy, idle smooth, very responsive.

Tonight I'm going change the air filter... question... would a cold air intake be best or should I just stick a K&N filter in? Also, my buddy says one of those cheap o2 clampers from ebay gave him a nice little boost on his Civic.. any thoughts?
Thanks =) gunna post some pics...
Oh yeah, the hood is damaged... where's a good place to pick up a carbon fiber or other such replacement hood cheap? thnx

Your stock intake is a pretty good cold air intake, throwing a K&N panel filter is a good way to go. The pod filter CAI's of the world are mostly for show, save for maybe the AEM which will apparently give minor gains.

Do NOT use any of the cheap "miracle" fuel saver/power mods off eBay. Honda did a great job designing, building and tuning your engine, a $5 mod will NOT give you any benefit at all, at least not one that's worth the damage it'll likely do.

Yeah I didn't really think messing with the fuel mixture was a great idea in a new car... tho if I was I tweaker, I might try Hondata. I found the AEM on-line, it's pretty. I bought a blue one... will stick a K&N in 'til it comes, don't know why I didn't check it before, the filter that was in it was FILTHY. The car has 220,000 kms on it... Is there anything else that should be looked at/replaced I'm over looking?
Thnx

- new spark plugs & wires
- new distributor cap & rotor
- new air/fuel filters
- clean injectors/iacv/egr/fitv
- bleed the coolant
- new pcv
- adjust valves and ignition
- adjust idle from tb's screw and throttle cable

check o2 sensors and vacuum/exhaust leaks
check timing. after that: double check timing

clogged cat might you give some trouble as well (usually when driving) - check cats condition

those are basic maintenance as well.
+ change oil every year / every 7000kms

So I did almost all of that... I'm going to do a search to find out how to do the timing... it's running awaesome though! Had no idea. It's a bit sluggish off the line due to the auto,no doubt, but... lol It keeps up or passes most of what tries to race me on the streets downtown at 2am Hahaha... =)

... probbly NOT smart.. but gotta test out a new toy once or twice... anyhow for now I'm focused on keeping it healthy and on the road. It's fun to drive I love the seating position, I hate trucks or cars that ride high off the ground I have an un-natural fear of rolling. Also it gets twice the gas mileage my last pos got that I paid more money for.

So you're saying you fixed the shiz to break more shiz by racing it at 2 am? In all seriousness though a K&N filter is the way to go. If you want show and not go buy some stickers.

Lol.... yes? but no I kinda got the car as a project, 'summer car' not knowing that after driving it, I spit on other cars, I love the seating position, handling and the general tight confident feel it has... I'd never owned an import before other than an '84 300zx that had 500k on it and ended up parked in my ex gf's mothers swimming pool (long story). I'm over the new toy faze wondering if a car with 220+km on it could be economically viable as a daily driver... I'm too old for being a general jackass and I Really like paying under 100$ a month for insurance....
