Crank pulley wobble & knocking noise when clutch pedal is not pushed in

So I had my car at the dealership the other day n had valve adjust oil change and brief over view. Get it back, drive about 50 miles or less n start to hear a knock. Get home n head a bad knock. So took it back and noticed the crank pulley wobbling a little. So they changed the pulley put a new one on and everything seemed well. Drove about 200 miles n the knock is back n the new pulley is wobbling worse than the first. I'm being told maybe the stage 4 clutch has destroyed the bearings or thrush washer.... Never in any of the Hondas I have had had I ever had a problem.... Some insight would help.

The crank pulley wobbles unless your engine is perfectly balanced.

It's called a harmonic balancer. It dampens vibrations via a rubber deal sandwiched between a pair of metal discs.

If it only knocks when the clutch is not pushed in.... that aint your harmonic balancer.

knock noise only happens when ac is on. press in the clutch pedal and the noise goes away. turn ac off and the noise goes away. do you think it may be bearings in the trans?

Re: Crank pulley wobble & knocking noise when clutch pedal is not pushed in

In my last post I left out what I thought it was because it went away after swapping to a new harmonic balancer and returned later.

You say when pushing in the clutch it goes away. Sure that would cause one to suspect something in the clutch is bad.

Now you say when ac is turned off noise goes away.

Sounds like your engine bay makes a knocking noise from somewhere when a load is placed on the motor.

I pondered all this while brewing a pot of coffee and came up zilch. So Ima fire some questions at ya.

Can you describe the knock? Is it steady like the rpm's of the motor, or irratic like has it's own rythm?

Can you identify where it comes from as in which side of the engine?

Are you loosing coolant? (Bad water pump bearing possible)

Are you using oil? Motor take a while to start?(possible internal combustion woes)

Are you handy with tools? A car stethoscope poked onto each item with a pulley like your alternator, the ps pump etc listening for a bad bearing.

Do same on top of the tranny.

(Edit: How old are your belts?)

Hope you find it soon. And that it's a simple and cheap fix.

My pop used to say 'turn up the radio'.

Re: Crank pulley wobble & knocking noise when clutch pedal is not pushed in

Coming from gear box. It's like a chatter noise. Only happens with ac on. Push clutch in it goes away. Turn ac off it goes away. Honda has my trans tore down and they say there is nothing wrong in the trans. No bad bearings at all. Is it possible a bearing is bad and the can't visibly see it?

Re: Crank pulley wobble & knocking noise when clutch pedal is not pushed in

I have a mystery noise in my pickup. Comes n goes. Only happens when it's rolling. I hear it but 3 shops have said they don't.

It'll reveal itself in time. Hopefully it's simple. Check your motor mounts.

Re: Crank pulley wobble & knocking noise when clutch pedal is not pushed in

there is a history in hondas and heavy duty pressure plates destroying thrust washers and causing crank walk and noises you describe and also you will see the crank pulley wobble as the crank walks back and forth . you can take a pry bar and place it between the pulley and the crank and see if you can move the crank and then between the motor mount and the back of the pulley and see if it moves either way this would indicate a worn thrust washer . good luck brother .

Re: Crank pulley wobble & knocking noise when clutch pedal is not pushed in

Honda has my trans completely torn down, no bad washers, nothing bad at all. I'm changing out the clutch in hopes the old clutch was the problem. Very very frustrated at all this and it's starting to add up
