Looking to buy

Been looking around for a nice 5th gen 5 speed. I like Preludes a lot but dont know very many specifics about them. Anything specific I should keep an eye out for while looking for one? Any known flaws, problems, ect...

Any advice is greatly appreciated, Thanks!

If you are looking for a 5th gen I would suggest the SH model which is improved handling because of the ATTS (Active torque transfer system). It is a little slower than the base model but I really like it and think it is worth it. The 5th gens come with a 200hp i4 obviousely and once you expereience the VTEC of them youll never look back. The SH is a little more expensive but well worth it. good luck with the buy!

What's your plans for the car first?
If you plan on any forced induction, get a base model.
If it's gonna be stock or a mild N/A build, SH is perfect.

Well I am unsure (right now) whether I will turbo it or something of that sort, I am looking for an everyday driver for the majority of the year, I've tried to get an SH but they seem to sell the day before I can get to it (3 times now). I am set to look at a 2001 Silver 5spd (not sh) with 45,000 miles for about $12,000 I figure if the car looks/runs well I'll go for it. The longer I wait the older they get so I think ill go for this one. I looked at an SH in my neighborhood but its got a pretty crappy front clip and am unsure how well the body work was done on it. I like the factory look for now. Just curious of what to look for as far as goods/bads of the car when I go to look at one on thurs.

Sounds like a good buy. I gotta SH but i've heard the automatics have tranny probs, somethin to think about. Just stick with a 5 speed and you should be golden

read their reviews. I would say do not get a 97 because they are supposed to be very problematic, being that its the first model...i would suggest a 98 and up. I've never heard that the sh was slower than the base, the base i thought came with 150+ hp and the sh 195, but i dunno..

12k seems like alot for me, specially if its a base model. The only time i would think a prelude could be worth that much is if it has MINT black leather interior and MINT everything else, lol.

Read up on the car and see if you can handle the prices of major repairs. Alot of the time people buy a car but don't think of how much the repairs can cost and end up hating it, so keep that in mind.

Other than that just do the usual, test drive it hard, check the engine, interior, body, undercarrage, make sure all the electricals work and see if they can show you a car fax report so they don't stick ya with a salvage or something of that sort...
GOOD LUCK THOUGH! I just got mine and I like it, it is NOT good on gas though, let me just remind you of that!!! 19.4 mpg city is what its rated at, but if you hit the Vtec a bit you're doing more like 15...( 23 highway, but again, not if you're revving high..)

Well around here for some reason that seems to be better than going price. It does only have 45,000 on original engine and it is the last model year they made them so ill prolly go for it if it looks good, guy says it was garaged winters too. Repair-wise I should be ok I work on cars myself for the most part. And the gas milage... Ill just forget you told me that for the time being...
