H22a4 studdering with black smoke coming from exhaust

I have a have a 97 type SH. When my car gets to running temp it studders or boggs really bad. When it starts doing that I either let it work its self out which lasts 5 to 10 mins. Or I give her hell 1-3, that normally stops it. But when I get on it there is a lot of black smoke (carbon). Now I start the car and let it set for 10 mins. before driving which it does not do any of the above. I had a cel that was for no lift in the EGR, I cleaned it cel went away. I have done a full tune up to it. Can someone please tell me why my car is doing this?

When you cleaned your egr did you clean and replace the ports on intake mani ? If not I suggest you do that, since it will bring you cel light back and may effect the black smoke coming out, the intermittent bogging might be your tps or map sensor.

I didn't clean the ports... I'll give that a try. I have a new TPS.

Black smoke normal??? I wouldn't call it normal... Unless your running a high load on your engine when cold. Maybe then.

Black smoke is caused by running rich. Go to the fuel systems diagnostics in the service manual, and find running rich when warmed up in the charts. Also find loss of power when warmed up. Do the steps to diagnose the main causes. Chances are your fuel pressure regulator from the sounds of it.

You could also have a leaky injector as well. I have seen that be a problem in some vehicles. Could also be that your spark plugs are not firing correctly and not burning the fuel that is deposited onto the pistons.
