Need to know where to get an exhaust system for an 01 prelude in Ontario quickly!

I've owned my prelude for maybe 2 months now, last night the exhaust broke right at the back of the catalytic converter. Due to rust, and how it broke Canadian Tire is saying if they can't salvage the cat, ill need a full exhaust system. First of all, can someone validate this? Is it really a 2 piece system? and secondly, if worse comes to worse, what's the cheapest (and fastest) I can get one here in Ontario? The MAX I can afford for parts plus install is a grand, and that's close to every cent I have right now... Thanks in advance, I'd really appreciate the help! Forgot to add, it is a BASE model.

Canadian Tire are idiots. I went to school with a guy who, in first year, got his own bay at a local C.T. Granted he was in the top 5 in the class, but they gave an unlicensed first year student (not yet an apprentice) his own bay.

When I took my '96 in to be certified they tried to get $2500 off of me. I knew three bulbs were out, and it was missing a battery tie down. They found the battery tie down, but missed the bulbs in the flurry of fault they found with a car that had been certified a few weeks previously. If I followed their list, I would have more-or-less had to stick a new car to the drivers side wing mirror. I replaced the bulbs myself, and took it to another shop to be certified. In all, it cost me for 3 bulbs, and a can of spray foam to fill a hole in the quarter panel.

They scared the **** out of my mother when she had her brakes inspected, and they made a complete pigs breakfast of the brake line replacement on my girlfriends civic.

Don't go to Canadian Tire.

I sourced out all my own parts for my exhaust set up. Mine was brand new from stem to stern, all stainless steel, mandrel bends + tig welded. It came to $1503 in parts and labour. You could get a better price if you aren't as picky as I was. A standard system from a muffler shop shouldn't be that much.

Whereabouts in Ontario are you located?

Ha! "I would have more-or-less had to stick a new car to the drivers side wing mirror." lol yea, I actually work as a service advisor at a CT, but I am stranded in another city until the car is driveable again... Once the advisor at this one calls back, I think I'll be calling a muffler shop. Thanks for the help mate! I'm in Cambridge (KW area) at my moms, but I live and work in Hamilton. I would love to take this as an opportunity to put on something nice, and by nice I mean not a fart can lol. But financially its not the right time to be blowing that kind of cash on a niec setup. just whatever works for now...

Re: Need to know where to get an exhaust system for an 01 prelude in Ontario quickly!

It's sad that they would try to rip off one of their own. :(

A couple friends of mine were service advisors for C.T. (at this one store that I was referring to) and they told me about the sell, sell, SELL, policy. I've been to others that weren't as bad. I guess it depends on where you go. I went to this one because it was the closest to my house, and I had the plates from my other car on it. I was worried about being pulled over, and it coming back as plates unattached.

My exhaust set up cost me $750 in parts.

Hytech replica (PLM) exhaust manifold
2.5" flexpipe
Magnaflow 2.5" high flow cat
Vibrant 2.5" resonator
OBX twin loop 2.5: muffler.
2.5" stainless steel piping, mandrel bend, and tig welded.

It sounds great and it'll probably outlive me. Ha.

The rest of the $1503 was labour. As I say, you could shave off a bit by shopping around at different muffler shops, price comparisons on parts, and, lesser materials/fabrications techniques.

Good news! I have found a muffler shop that will do up a custom stainless steel piece to replace the damaged areas for 700!! I save money by not having to buy a resonator and such. Very happy with the outcome, and it should be done tomorrow! it will even have a more aggressive sound than before!
