ticking noise from tire

Hey guys, so I've got a 98 5th gen SH with 115,xxx on her. Whenever I get up to 60+ mph, I notice a loud ticking noise coming from the driver's side front tire. It's only when I'm going straight, so I know it's not a CV axle or anything. I've checked for rocks/screw/etc, and still can't find anything. I did just get new tires put on, and got a rear wheel bearing replaced, but it doesn't sound like a wheel bearing noise anyways. It doesn't get progressively louder, but it's pretty annoying, and I can't figure out what it is for the life of me. Any ideas?

Pardon me if I break a few forum rules, I'm new to posting on this site, but you guys have indirectly fixed any other problems I've had and I thank you for that.

Re: ticking noise from tire

It does sound like it could be a wheel bearing. Is it a constant ticking or more random? Is it a high speed tick or slow?

If it was something to do with the alignment or balancing from the new tires then you would also feel a vibration through the steering wheel. There could always be something inside the tire though, you could take the wheel off and give it a shake to see if you can hear anything.

The advice I've always heard, jack up the car and grab the wheel at 12 and 6 and try and twist it, if there is any movement it is likely a worn wheel bearing. Also grab the wheel at 3 and 9 and do the same thing, movement here is likely worn tie rods.

Check for stones between the inside face of the brake rotor and the dust shield, too -- had one in there once that drove me nuts for a couple of days before I found it.

See if you can swop that wheel with say, maybe the back wheel. If it is still there, then you know that it is not the tyre, and then follow the previous posts advice.
