New Guy with purchase questions!

First time poster here! I am about to buy a 2001 Prelude SH with 94,000 original miles. It has only had one owner and is great condition! The owner has all of the paperwork from the time it left the factory. Everything is bone stock except for a CAI and strut bar I believe.

Can any of you guys help determine what kind of CAI and strut bar this is? The dealer says it has a K&N filter but that is all they could tell me over the phone!

Also what would be a fair offer to give on this car?

Thanks for all the help in advance!

Re: New Guy with purchase questions!

Tanabe strut bar. proabably ebay intake with K&N filter. filter is probably the important part but its not a cold air intake. wheels are from RSX and the rings around the gages have been changed... might want to make sure its the original Cluster.
idk i would say like $4,300.

Re: New Guy with purchase questions!

Preludes go for way more around where I live. I would expect ~6300 for it here

Re: New Guy with purchase questions!

Thanks for the replies! That changes my mind a little bit then. The dealer said that it was all stock except for the CAI and strut bar. They are asking $8600 for it. The car looks great and I really like it but not knowing why the rims were changed or the cluster rings changed makes me feel kind of sketchy. I was looking to buy something that was more stock and not modded.

Would you guys think that with these things being changed I could use them in my favor to haggle down the price?

well its still pretty stock. floor mats are aftermarket and the radio obviously, spark plug wires, and oil cap
the cluster you could use to possibly obviously play it into your favor. idk though about price maybe like 6,000? also see how long the car has been at the dealer. my car was at the dealership for 2 months. sticker they had was 6500. i purchased for 3000 lol

Dude the dealership is ripping you off...i bought a base model vtec w/ 77k on it w/ aftermarket parts. Bought it for 6k and according to NADA that car...for clean retail is only worth $5,825. I love the prelude but that dealer is gonna rip you off at $8600. Use NADA and your zip code to figure out the best price. I say clean retail + rough trade in divide by 2 and add 500 so I.E. 5,825+2,300=4062+500=$4562. that's for my zip in FL. Bring a buddy w/ you to help out...

Re: New Guy with purchase questions!

Its still really stock, I'd say go for it even if you can get it for 7, if it has absolutely no rust, good condition interior/exterior and runs flawlessly

Re: New Guy with purchase questions!

It does look pretty much stock. Although I'd wonder what kind of engine work has been done. At the least the valve cover has been taken off and stripped. Makes you wonder what else has been done. $8600 is a bit too much IMO.

i came up w/ that formula proudly on my own...lol. the 500 is for the dealer fee, could be more or less but hey they gotta make money.

The high number is "excellent condition" retail value. The low number is Poor condition trade in value. I add the two and divide by two because you've got two values. anyway...thats what i did for my lude and the family car...and i got both for the price i wanted.

Re: New Guy with purchase questions!

The strut bar is a good thing. Helps stiffen the car up front a bit without affecting that oh so nice stock prelude ride.

You can buy a used stock air box for less than $75 if you don't like that after market thingy.

The rest of the mods are just user preference type stuff easily put back to stock.
As in stock stereo and floor mats (which are getting pretty scarce)

Show dude $8k cash and drive away your new SH.

I'm restoring an SH back to stock and a strut bar is on my must have someday list.

Re: New Guy with purchase questions!

Wow! Thanks for all of the replies and helpful info!

The NADA Clean Retail for the car is $7100 and the KBB Fair Market Value is $6954. MSRP on KBB is $7014.

Would I still be in good shape if I got the car for around $6800?
