Icon5 first prelude, what should i do to it next

I have a 1998 grey/green honda prelude, and im wanting to have fun with it. it is my first car and i have a kinda tight budget to play around with it. im thinking about getting a carbon fiber hood, but thats a little out of my price range for now, im woundering if i should get carbon fiber vinly but my brother says its a waist of money, hard to use, and wont last long. if it is too hard and wont last on the hood i might just do a little interior with it, but honestly i dont know where to start.
i need some tips or ideas on what to do. anyone out there have any good experience with sooping up theire ludes?
p.s. pic isnt mine just same gen

Wing, CAI, Coilovers, catback exhaust, halo headlights, HID Kit for headlights, body kit...but for me...all i did was convert to HID headlight, CAI and Catback exhaust, you could do cheap coilovers and an HID kit...all on ebay...do the carbon fiber hood if you are gonna turbo...thats all the ricing i can think of...

Re: first prelude, what should i do to it next

^ don't listen to this guy lol.

It all depends on what you want. My brother has carbon fiber vinyl on his tib's hood. It looks good, but we spent a lot of time working on it. I did a few interior pieces with it and I think they look good, check my build thread for pics.

The stock hood looks good IMO. What you should do is clean everything, make sure your car is in perfect running order, then go for intake, header, exhaust, get a nice set of wheels, coilovers. Leave your headlights stock, and don't waste money on crappy looking lame bits like eBay halo headlights and body kits.

If you do want something more of a body kit look, I'd suggest a lip kit from someone like Wings West, or even the type SH lip kit.

lol..you don't have to listen to me but if you are on a tight budget...like you stated...then perhaps you should...and if your intent is just to make it look good then putting a carbon fiber hood would not make sense if it were out of your price range, there are cheaper options like aluminum wrapping, plasti dip, etc and yes ebay coilovers, just keep your OEM's...unless if you intend to go faster...then just put turbo on it...and don't waste time ricing it out...IMO sleeper/OEM with a few additions looks better...

Don't know why these guys are throwing around the term "ebay" so loosely as any person who has had experiences with "ebay" auto parts knows that alot of parts on ebay are JUNK! You have been warned. That being said do your research before commiting to a purchase. The first thing I did with my lude was to bring all stock parts up to "par". and then worry about IHE and cosmetics. If your putting your money on cosmetics I would get yourself some nice rims, a lip kit, projector headlights...or a cheaper option in reguards to the rims is get your stock rims sand blasted and powder coated the color you want. The Wings West Lip Kits are a popular choice but can be pricey. You can find all sorts of cheap ebay knock-offs, but just like I said earlier be careful what you buy off of ebay, and be sure to do your research beforehand.

I freaking love eBay. You can find so many legit, quality items and great deals. I have quite a bit of experience from eBay. My lip, intake, exhaust, short shifter, G/C coilovers, and shift knob were all from eBay and I am happy with all of them.

Nothing wrong with ebay! After all the maintenance is out of the way I'd go HID's first makes it look a lot better in my opinion. Then rims and intake.

You could just ignore the fools above and think for yourself. Then again making sure your car stays on the road is more important than appearance. Ebay has deals, but stay away from auctions where the cars pics in the auction are stupid exotic and you're buying a $1.00
Interior dome lights lol . The sexy phone service chick in the middle of the webpage is the other dead give away...

I think they meant ebay knock off parts when they said cheap stuff. I have found a bunch of awesome genuine parts (unfortunatly havent had the funds to buy) on ebay. just gotta be careful! But in regards to the post, when i bought my lude i knew dang near nothing about cars. Do research, especially on here, youtube, and even look on other forums. Slowly but surely you'll learn! Welcome!

Maintenance first. Let the mods come later. If nothing is currently broke, look for things that may fail soon and replace those now rather than later.

Re: first prelude, what should i do to it next

Ok, I'm speaking from about a year and a half with my prelude.. Everyone on this forum that enjoys their prelude and enjoys modifications has learned their lessons one way or another and this forum has great information if you use it right. And when I bought my prelude I was not as open to information and just started buying a bunch of stuff that said "adds 15+ horsepower" DO NOT DO THAT. As previously stated, FIRST comes maintenance my specific car had suspension problems. So I should have started slowly adding attention to the areas that lack.. Another thing is make sure you don't have ANY oil leaks. Pop your hood, roll under the car with a jack and some jack stands( SAFELY of course ) and refer to the oil leak guid posted on this site. Fix any of those. I'm speaking from experience, i started throwing on the typical modifications, like the CAI, eBay exhaust, HIDs, and some of it worked well but now that I've grown and learned I know that I need to maintain my prelude, so now I'm solving ALL problems and prepping for turbo. The real fun. But Good luck and welcome to the site!

Re: first prelude, what should i do to it next

I agree with other posters and it is true overall...proper maintenance first then looks.

Use ebay...or don't...i'm just saying if you're not going to actually put a turbo on it, i.e. upgrade in performance...then don't spend hundreds of dollars on performance parts...like skunk2, greddy, or whatever else you can muster...just leave it alone...the more you do the more chances of things happening...

If you do decide to actually upgrade its performance...then buy quality products...which can also be found on ebay...

if you want it to look good, based on your own opininion...just go on google...and search for suped up ludes and get ideas from google images...or heck even you tube... good luck.

OP
Thank you all once again for the help, and im really glad yall took an interest in my thread.
For starters i know i shouldnt be asking for ideas to do to my car and i should just use my own ideas, im just looking for opinions and tips so i dont ruin my car or bring disgrace to the ludes.
Iagree 100% that maintenance comes first and it has.
(a little background) i bought my prelude last summer from a guy off cregslist, a few months later the timming belt skipped time and you know the rest. $2300 later and its driving smooth, there are still a few problems, but im still paying off the timming belt debt, so im on a tight budget. my gas gauge is broke, but i can deal with it, my passenger outside door handle is broke, and the shop that did my head job over the timming belt scratched up my driver side door a little.
sorry for all the reading but other than that its pretty clean, other than being a old car.

I heard that the gas gauge being broke could be two different places, either the bobber or the gauge it self, its just a bunch of petty BS that i need to fix but i wouldnt mind making my lude look a little better, but im a nube when it comes to cars but im trying my best, so instead of going out and *ricing* out my car and looking stupid, i want to research all my options, does anyone know a good site that could help me out with finding my taste. id just hate to do something and and regret it later.
or maybe im just being a b****. ANYWAY any help will be appreciated1

Honestly, This site has given me more inspiration than anything else, go look through the members ride sections and auto showoffs. Just lurk on the forums for a bit, read around, and eventually you will find something that you like, and base it off of that :)

Re: first prelude, what should i do to it next

First off, I would do all the maintenance on it, then I would scroll through the DIY section on this site, there's tons of upgrades u can do for cheap on that section. And then I would prob buy some coil over or lowering springs. Don't buy upgrades on the engine of ur car yett, gaining hp is pretty pricy on ludes, u gotta spend major money to notice some difference. On the Cai and exhaust, I would hold off til u get some more money, that's just my 2 cents
