Icon1 radio error-3 code/new sound system

hey im fairly new to this forum site and i just had a question
i just bought a 1997 black honda prelude and when i go to use the radio system it give me "ERR-3" on the display
no matter what button i press it still displays the err-3
does anyone know how to fix?

also, im thinking of just replacing the head unit along with the speakers and adding a subwoofer. basically a whole new sound system. any tips for the best kind of sound systems? preferably one with bluetooth(for phone calls)/aux

Re: radio error-3 code/new sound system

If I remember right (I got an aftermarket system very quickly after getting my lude) that means that the radio is waiting for the security code. Pull out the head unit (for the code on it), call your local Honda dealership, and they will give you the security code.

Hopefully those are the right steps. I only did it once 2 years ago and I hope that was what I did and what that error code is for. :)

In regards to the best system, I think that it is more personal preference. I have a "mutt" system. My speakers are all Polk, my amp is Polk, my head unit is JVC, and my sub is JL (very fantastic 8" sub that pushes the lows). The cabin isn't that big and you don't have to put too much in it if you are simply going for hearing music better (or calls).

You are right about radio code but two things come to mind. First off check in the glove box and see if owners manual contains a white sticker (I think?) that will have a series of #'s on it. This is your radio code. If not there, will need to take to dealer as they most often will not do this over the phone b/c who knows if someone stole that radio and trying to activate it. Buddy of mine lost his code, went to dealer, in/out in 15 mins w/radio activated, no charge.

Once you get the code keep it handy. Everytime you reset the ecu, just like your clock, you have to reset the radio.
