Icon5 ?Looking to buy new shocks and springs for 97 prelude SH

I need some info on witch is the best rout for honda prelude SH. Im not looking for a crazy drop or slammed my car, i just need something better then my crappy OEM blown shocks. Now i see some nice tokico st up with springs and some KYB-AGX at some good prices but they are telling me that, those shocks will not fit the SH model and they are for the base model only. I've heard that, you can get any shocks for the base and it'll fit in the SH model as long you get aftermarket springs. I just need some input as, how true it is. Please any help will be greatly appreciated.

Covered a lot, just search. I would recommend coilovers. Can adjust at anytime

Re: ?Looking to buy new shocks and springs for 97 prelude SH

Well idk what your budget is, but I would recommend full coilover set up... But search it's out there. And yes there is a difference between base and SH
Mine is a base... So idk how else I can help... :/

Re: ?Looking to buy new shocks and springs for 97 prelude SH

Some of those coilovers out there are cheaply made and leak upon arrival. Plus I'm not looking for a crazy drop. Maybe like an 1.5'' all around. I've read that, all the aftermarket shocks that says" exclude prelude SH" will actually fit only by using aftermarket springs.

Re: ?Looking to buy new shocks and springs for 97 prelude SH

When I blew out my shocks in the front I went on eBay and found these shocks that only fit the base model, so it says. Maybe he was covering his rep or something but I bought em anyways, the only modification I did to em was I grinded off these tabs that were welded on to the shock. They look like the brake lines maybe get connected to em or something else, those tabs were kinda in the way so off they went lol. So dam difficult finding parts for our cars but hey you gotta do what you gotta do.

Re: ?Looking to buy new shocks and springs for 97 prelude SH

yeah i agree. it is extremely difficult to buy or find parts for the SH. Now i have to get a tire rod assembly cause the right side is done and is making noise when turning the wheel to the right and im hearing that, the SH has a completely different tie rod set up then the base. I called Autozone and they have it and i asked them, is it specifically for the SH and they say that, it applies for both cars and it doesnt say. Im skeptic into getting them. I dont know if someone knows if this is true or not.

Re: ?Looking to buy new shocks and springs for 97 prelude SH

The tie-rods r different. I went into a shop cause my passenger side was bad and I had to get a sh tie-rod, it's longer then the base I think and cost me a little bit more money. Wat a pain in the azz with this car sometimes but it's well worth it in the drive lol

Yeah if you buy ****ty ones. Function and Form, or if you are on a budget Ground Control sleeves.

Re: ?Looking to buy new shocks and springs for 97 prelude SH

kyb agx, tokico blues, koni yellows? SPRINGS: Tein ss tech, eibach. if you're gonna do all this i would also recommend coilovers just like some other members did. price for all this will be a good amount of money.with coilovers you can also adjust height and maybe dampening depending on which coil you choose. i have f&f type 2's their alright for daily drivers. from what iv'e searched BC coils are a better option although they're pricey.
