throttle body/intake manifold basic bolt on tune

I'm getting ready to do a tune on just bolt ons . I seen there's certain sizes for the throttle body for skunk 2 I plan on bulding my engine for turbo slowly but need to know what's the best size for right now and any other part I should upgrade before I tune . Currently have an exhaust . Aem v 2 on the way and the hytech header also on the way. I have a p72 obd1 with harness waiting to be put on as well

Re: throttle body/intake manifold basic bolt on tune

Why are you wanting to tune (and buy a new header) if you're gonna go turbo? I guess if you must, you may as well snag a Skunk2 intake manifold and tune after you have that and your header installed. I say that because the Skunk2 IM is typically a better choice for turbo applications.

Wow, you're wasting ALLLLOTTTT of money, just to throw it all down the drain later down the road for turbo.

Can you just send me the money instead? I'll put it to better use, I promise.

Re: throttle body/intake manifold basic bolt on tune

all motor and turbo are going to want completely different things. by the time you have a worthy all motor setup, you could have easily had a turbo setup. I absolutely love all motor but it comes with a price and you need to understand you cant just throw parts at it and be successful.

turbo is a bit more lenient but still requires knowing what you are doing to make an EFFICIENT setup.

and please, if you bought a hytech replica.....its not a hytech. its just chinese junk.

Wanna know what I went through and spent just to get my H22 to 214whp? Click the red car in my sig and start reading, bucko. Then, go ahead and call me cheap.

After that, try reading through TwoK's threads, think, and repeat.

Re: throttle body/intake manifold basic bolt on tune

Intake and header = not used for turbo
Exhaust = most likely too small for turbo
That's $1,000 wasted.
Any decent tune = $500, which apparently you wanna do twice, so that's another 500 wasted.

TB/IM...... debatable.

You are LITERALLY wasting $1,500, which is half of a decent turbo setup. But what do I know about turbo

Re: throttle body/intake manifold basic bolt on tune

Also that new ecu still needs to be chipped to be tuned. If you want a cheap solution, buy a laptop off Craig's list, get a tuning software, get a Moates Ostrich and tune your engine yourself.

Like twok said,

1. You replace your header with a turbo manifold and downpipe when building a turbo build

2. Our stock cars, IHE will give you maybe 15hp with the tune maybe snacking out an extra 5-8. Not worth the money you need for a chip for your ecu, install, and time on a dyno to burn the ROM for your chip.

Re: throttle body/intake manifold basic bolt on tune

i would have loved for anyone with my current back ground to have helped me when i first started out. But i guess i wouldnt be who i am now.

Garurumon -
Tuning yourself isnt something i would recommend to someone who is just starting out. I opted to follow a route which i believe to be a smart route. I had my car tuned by a professional when i first started out. I then purchased the necessary components to tune myself knowing I always had a backup tune that would run the engine properly.

you guys have it easy nowadays. Neptune, S300....done. there isnt really an necessity for the ostrich anymore unless you are going to be using CROME, which i would not recommend at all for a beginner or really anyone who wants to learn the correct way.

I dont know how your financial situation stands, but literally tossing money in the garbage is well....pretty pointless. Not to mention you will never get a fraction of that money back because everyone who searches for used parts is a cheap ass.

I also hope the OP takes some of these posts as OPINIONs and not fact because there are a few that just seem to be regurgitating automotive jargon.
