Exhaust help

I recently bought my 5th Gen from a young girl in VA, and I test drove this thing and was really impressed with how clean this car was new paint job and all (so I bought it). One thing I noticed driving it was the exhaust was really loud (thought it would be an easy fix). After a little bit of research I found that it had a Cat Back 2 1/2" exhaust with a N1 style muffler. After a little more research I found that the muffler once had a "silencer" on it and was obviously removed.

I am wondering how much will this silencer reduce the exhaust noise? I have ordered one off of eBay and recieved the wrong size I ordered one for a 3 1/2" exhaust pipe and I got one for a 4" this was a mistake on the eBay Store's account. Now I am waiting another 10 days for my return address shipping document to send it back and wait another 10 days for them to get it then wait another 10 days on shipping for them to send me the right size silencer.

Since this has been going on I've been pulled over twice for my exhaust being too loud and avoided the ticket both times, will I be so lucky next time or will the cop think I am just blowing it off? I think it is a $100 fine.

So here is my question, where can I find a silencer for a 3 1/2" exhaust pipe locally? Like a muffler shop or something? I would like to give this silencer a try before I have to spend money on a exspensive muffler.

Thanks

Rob

That silencer will reduce the decibels by 5-8 db's...not that much in my opinion...see this clip:

You should get a quieter muffler...i know your paranoia...cops in my city pull you over for everything...i got pulled over for my exhaust, and it aint even that loud! I had to go to criminal court...CRIMINAL COURT for a loud muffler!!

Well the noise ordinance is a decimal level, with that I would probably be below that level. However the cop did say that it does not sound like a factory muffler of a Honda Prelude. I was about to be smart and say, "Neither was that Harley that rode by either". Well my mother is a Magistrate here in VA. I will research that and I will post what I find out so you guys can check for the same laws in your states. Well I do own a MIG welder and just the cost of the muffler is all I will be out, so I guess my next question would be what to get that will sound good without going overboard. (plus have performance values) some links would be great, thanks

Rob

p.s. I looked on the ever most popular site "eBay" I looked at the twin loop, good Lord. I'm already having clearance issues with my 3.5" N1 style muffler, yeah actually I think its the 2 1/2" exhaust pipe from the Cat back. We have a performance muffler shop here in Roanoke, VA I'm going to stop in there sometime on Monday and check them out. In the mean time hopefully that silencer finally makes it here and keeps me from getting a ticket.
