Icon8 Failed Ball Joint

So, Thursday I was cruising down the road thinking everything is fine, going about 50 mph. Then all of the sudden "POW!" and I lost about 60-70% of my steering immediately followed by a horrible grinding noise and a lot of smoke. I get my car to the side of the road to find that my front passenger rim looks like a lathe came at it. I got towed back to work where I have warehouse and tool access, lifted it up and noticed my lower ball joint had come completely out of the boot/housing and the castle nut came down and wedged between the rim and rotor (causing the grinding, smoke, and tore up rim). Took me about two hours to get the old one out even with a borrowed press from advance auto, but after that getting the new one in wasn't bad, just spray painted the rim, luckily it was the inside so not too noticeable. Seems like no other real damage was done luckily.

Happy that was all that happened but after consuming time with it and the frustration that came with it, I'll be putting off my rotor painting project, hopefully next weekend.

Just wanted to rant about it I guess.

Pretty much got flamed for driving like a jackass and was told to slow down. And I'll be damned, slowing down fixed it.

came pretty close! I think I got off pretty lucky, still drivable and no "noticeable" damage.
