Another thread needing help buying!

Hey guys! Newbie here

Looking for some advice/help purchasing this 'Lude I found!

https://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/cto/4352523611.html

I haven't contacted the guy yet, but is this a reasonable price? I understand Preludes go significantly over their book value, but I feel like his asking price is a little high (or rather, I'm wondering if there's any play room to try and get him lowering his price).

Thanks!

Re: Another thread needing help buying!

That is definitely a nice lude. That being said I do think that the asking price is a little high, but that might also be because we are in different areas. Do some comparison shopping and see where it gets you on price in the area. After that make a decision on what you would like to offer for the vehicle.

I could make my car shine like that as well (minus the two rust spots), but that doesn't mean that something major isn't wrong with it. Like any other used vehicle it is the toss of the dice to buy it even though it is a great car and engine.

Re: Another thread needing help buying!

Yeah, this is one of the cleanest I've found in awhile... I've noticed prices around this area seem to be pretty high. Preludes with an automatic tranny are going for around 5-6.5k (don't know if that's what they're actually selling for, but that's what dealers are asking for).

Ones with a manual tranny usually have modifications/body damage so the prices I've seen are around 3.5-5k.

Do you think I can bring up NADA and KBB prices into negotiation? Or would that really depend on how much these cars are going for in a certain area?

Thanks again!

Re: Another thread needing help buying!

That car is at a dealer price.

Dealer price is some 50-100% or more above street price for a used Prelude.

Unless you have ca$h avoid them. You'll pay more for the car but if you finance you'll pay a ton in interest too.

Re: Another thread needing help buying!

Ahh I see. Thanks for the heads up!

But that being said, I was considering calling him and offering $3500 for the Prelude, I think that's a reasonable price IMO (I hope at least ) since that would be right in between what KBB and NADA prices the car.

Re: Another thread needing help buying!

Looks like a real nice car. Garage queens go for 'retail' (nada) or more.

Tell the guy the 4th gen mat on the driver side de-values the car.

Re: Another thread needing help buying!

Honestly I don't think that price is high. The car looks mint. You can't just base a price on km's alone, if the car has been babied then you could justify that. Look at how clean the engine bay is

I'd say go for it! If you think its too high, offer 4500. Don't low ball with 60% of the asking price if its mint.

Re: Another thread needing help buying!

If you offer him $3500, he'll probably laugh at you. That's way too low for such a mint car. $4500 is reasonable, but honestly he isn't asking far too much for such a clean car. He obviously loves it and good luck getting it for anything under $5000. People put too much sentimental value on things they love.

Wow - that is one clean unmolested low mile 1997 5-spd! Pay $100-150 for an inspection by a Honda dealer. If it was black, I would be at his door with $5000 cash! Don't miss your opportunity - you will not regret it.

Re: Another thread needing help buying!

Offered him $4500 at the moment, I will probably get an inspection done by a Honda Dealer this week to see if everything checks out! Hopefully I can get the car in my hands...so clean!

First, I have to wonder why your were hesitant on a car we all agreed was good for $5500, but now you're looking at one for 3k more...? Are you just window shopping?

Second, nope. It's way too much. Not that it isn't clean and all, but you can only ask so much for a 13 year old honda. 9k? You're talking newer car range. Wouldn't even consider it. Red one was a better deal.

Re: Another thread needing help buying!

5500… knowing what i know now i would find a nice shell and get a motor and trans rather then paying a high asking price for a car with 166k on it

Nah, I was just curious as to the price and if SH's really go for much. Definitely have my eyes set on the red one, though! Owner just got back to me an hour ago. Gonna go look at it on Thursday :)
