Shift Points

Hi,

Been lurking here for a while but I wanted to get your guys opinion on this subject. Anyways, I was going through my owners manual and found something pretty interesting.

Recommended Shift Points:

1st to 2nd - 15mph(24km/h) = ~2900 RPM
2nd to 3rd - 28mph(45km/h) = ~3300 RPM
3rd to 4th - 41mph(66km/h) = ~3300 RPM
4th to 5th - 52mph(83km/h) = ~3200 RPM

According to the owners manual, "This will give you the best fuel economy and effective emissions control." As a broke student, I always thought that shifting between 2k-3k RPM would yield the best fuel economy. Maybe it's just for our cars?

Thoughts?

Re: Shift Points

That's about right for fuel economy. Had never considered emissions output, but I guess less fuel burned equals less pollution output....

But hey, you have a hot rod, not an accord. Splurge. Switch gears at 3500.. or 4000 for kick n giggles..

Pretty much got flamed for driving like a jackass and was told to slow down. And I'll be damned, slowing down fixed it.
