Check engine light and flashing D4. HELP!!

So I have my 2001 prelude. 107k kms. This morning I noticed my check engine light was on and the D4 light was flashing. This wasnt happening just last night. Is this something I should get fixed right away or is it something I can wait a couple weeks for. I can't afford a mechanic so I'm kinda stuck fixing it myself but I have to wait for my step dad to come home who is a mechanic. Should I just park it for a week or two? Or should I be okay?

Park it. Fix it. Sell it. Buy a manual.
I have no experience with the autos but i know enough that you shouldn't keep driving it. Sounds like a sensor if anything, get a reader and pull the codes, then we can guide you in the right direction. if you fix it you can sell it easier and for more (if the fix isn't to expensive), because you will have more problems in the near future. 5 speed swap is another route to go, but that takes time and money if you have a mechanic do it.

Re: Check engine light and flashing D4. HELP!!

Park it until you know what it is. Something caught early could result in catastrophe if you keep driving.

Read the 5th gen auto failure thread.
If your step dad is unfamiliar with Honda cars, you guys should google accord auto failure. Lots n lots of documentation exists for those. The whys and what to do.

Prelude trannies fail due to the same issue. But nearly all documentation I can find for their failures is somebody saying 5 speed swap.

There's a design issue and certain precautions can lengthen the life of your transmission.

Re: Check engine light and flashing D4. HELP!!

The code blinks like a check engine light does when your pulling them. short blinks followed by fast blinks. For example if there's 4 slow blinks and 3 fast blinks its code 43. Go to the helms manual and see what the code is for.

theres a manual for trouble shooting on here:

5th gen online manual

I hated my auto 5th gen (Transmission slippage) so i just swapped it to manual, pretty time consuming but you're better off in the long run, trust me.
