Hole leaking water by water pump help....

I have a hole directly above the water pump. It leaks when I get on the gas in my car. Please help id why it's leaking or if I can fix it. The water also always flows out the over glow on too of the radiator..... Any ideas.

Re: Hole leaking water by water pump help....

If it's leaking there must be a hole somewhere!

All jokes aside I'm not sure. Check gaskets.

Sounds like the weep hole, I believe that indicates your water pump is going bad. Also check your radiator are a lot of the metal fins bent? it could be clogged which could be the reason for it leaking out of the overflow.

Re: Hole leaking water by water pump help....

Check for hose leaks at fittings.

Could be the radiator is leaking at the cap area or the cap is not on proper. Maybe a crack in the overflow hose or improper fit onto the nipple from the radiator. Some call it the stem. I call it a nipple.

You mention hole.... is it on the water pump itself, say behind the pulley? They have weepholes to let you know the bearing is worn and wobbling some. If it's on the top of the water pump housing as in above the pulley and there's no actual hole, it could be improper gasket seal.

I had a leak once. A giant one. I fixed it. Then upon returning home from a test drive I saw drips on the driveway every few feet apart. WTH IS IT NOW!?!?
I hadn't put the cap on correctly. It happens.

How bad is the leak?

I have to ask, do you know where your water pump is?

Reason being, because your water pump is in such a pain in the ass spot to visually inspect without removing the upper and lower timing cover...ontop of even seeing it when getting on the gas...

Post a photo of what you're looking at.

You should have 50/50 coolant/antifreeze not just straight water. Overflowing could mean a few things;

overfilled overflow
bad water pump
bad thermostat

Is there a minimum post before pix rule?

Re: Hole leaking water by water pump help....

Me thinx there's a minimum posts required, or once upon a time it was, like 5 or 15... I was like 200+ posts before attempting it so I dunno...

I saw it in an old post by the admin, so it may have changed.

Try it Zack. See what happens. Read the faq stuff above on how to post pix.
Many use a link from photobucket or instagram on their phone. Some use the cpu to attach it directly to the post.

Re: Hole leaking water by water pump help....

You don't need any required posts to link a picture onto here through photobucket, flickr etc.

x2 on that photo though, it can easily be a bad oring on that water pipe that connect to the water pump.

Thanks for clearing that up.
I see some new members saying 'can't post pix yet' sometimes.

Sounds like it's possible to post a link but not attach anything until the magic number is reached.
