Need a new windshield...

Ok I have been calling around and getting prices for a new windshield. The other night when it froze out here I was driving and had the great experience of watching my windshield crack from the far bottom right all the way to the far left side. So now to the question. Can anyone recommend a company to go to?

Local options are Safelite, Binswanger, and a local shop called Auto Glass now.

I know a while back I read on here someone got a windshield from safelite and the pic they posted showed a lot of small scratches and the poster said that it was inferior glass.

Biswanger when I was kid was quality company but are they still?

Id rather not spend the $450+ to get it new OEM if I dont have to.

Re: Need a new windshield...

Been happy with PPG replacement glass in my track car, and I've had to use multiple replacements. :)

Re: Need a new windshield...

I think your insurance should cover anything to do with windshield replacement, with out any problems. At least they help me out, no questions asked. I would get OEM or Safelight. Also Safelight is not a supplier of replacement glass, they get them from another supplier, my guess is Pilkington. At least that is how it is here in Chattanooga. I only say this, because I used to work for Pilkington, and we supplied every windshield repair company with in 50 miles of our location.

Good Luck !!!

Re: Need a new windshield...

Yes.. oem glass is the pilkington.
Nothing wrong with safelight glass or ppg.

Get comprehensive insurance with $0 deductible glass breakage. Costs me like $100/year and one glass r&r pays for it many times over.

Call around. Whoever seems the most helpful should get your business. The ones that say "awe man that's a hard one" should not.

x2 on insurance should cover anything related to the windshield.
