Icon9 help! stuck in reverse! 98 auto

My wife was driving up a steep hill, turned onto a side street to turn around, this was a flat area, and after she got turned around the car was stuck in reverse. shifter would move to all gears but trans was stuck in reverse. She shut off the engine / restarted twice and finally the car would go into drive. Acted normal after that. We have been having the typical neutraling out thing going on and I have decided not to delay in ordering the part and get that taken care of. Is this symptom part of the problem caused by the solenoid or an additional problem. Please help.

Car: 1998 auto w/ 135K

thanks,
msw

Re: help! stuck in reverse! 98 auto

Could be a shift solenoid related issue. Try removing them and cleaning the screens. There are (2) on the front of the transmission.

It's a start in the troubleshooting process.

this. those seem to be the problem areas. LS1_BB6 has the same issue with his, i think he just replaced those 2 and was ok. it was on our way down to BBAlianceTB meet, he drove from Dallas to Austin with only 2nd and 4th gear i think lol

Hopefully cleaning out the solenoids/replacing them will help, but the major issue lies within the actual valvebody of the tranny. If it does help, I really urge you to purchase an external filter + cooler for it to try to keep it functioning as long as possible

edit: might also be worth your while to get a transmission fluid (ATF) flush or change
