Austin, TX shops

I am just looking for suggestions for a good shop in Austin. I am looking for a good quality shop that I can count on for solid work.

The issue: I had a complete tune-up done on my car 17,000 miles ago. My car is coding left and right because it is misfiring so badly. The shop that I originally took it to will do nothing about this and I refuse to waste money with them anymore (there have been other problems with another vehicle I have taken there). I need a shop that will do the work well and that is familiar with Preludes. I have a 97 base Prelude.

Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.

Re: Austin, TX shops

if you have a FB account, find the BB Alliance group, cause there's a lot of people from the Austin/SA area who can definitely help out. If you were up here in the DFW area, I could help out

Re: Austin, TX shops

Sounds good. I actually have it in a shop right now that "specializes" in imports. I would have preferred a shop that had a bit more intimate knowledge of Preludes. :)

Now finding out that I have a cylinder out and possibly valve work that needs to be done. This bill just jumped from $400 to $1600 that fast unless I can find another place that can take care of the cylinder issues cheaper.

All I can say is HELP!! :)

Re: Austin, TX shops

I told them to put a hold on anything else once they told me the price. I wanted to get a feel for what other possibilities were out there. They are just looking at a complete valve job and replacing 1 cylinder (if it is cracked) along with the applicable gaskets, seals, etc.

Where would I get a good engine at that price point? I know that I have seen some suggestions on a good website or two and then there is the option of buying a wrecked lude and swapping.

Re: Austin, TX shops

Depends on where you go. I one time was looking for the FICV and a guy offered me motor and tranny for $400... Didn't have the space though
