Re: Ignition Lock Cylinder

I tried searching the forums, but could not specifically find what I am looking for. I'm hoping someone can shed some light for me.

Yesterday my ignition lock went on me. Went from working fine in the morning to parking it for a few hours. Then later that night when I went to leave I couldn't get my key to turn. 20mins later I got it turned and drove it home. Ever since it is a nightmare just trying to get the key to turn.

I started tearing it apart. I have replaced and had lock cylinders rebuilt in previous cars so I figured I would take it down to a locksmith. I have everything apart exposing the lock cylinder. I managed to get the key in and on accessory. I have the covers off of the cylinder. The only thing I need to do is push the release pin. But for the life of me I can not see a pin anywhere to remove the cylinder from the housing. Is there a release pin on these cylinders? If so, where?

Now I'm not entirely sure if my cylinder is different from any of your Prelude's. Did all 5th gens here have Immobilizers? Mine is a 97. But it is RHD from Japan, and it does not seem to have a Immobilizer. So would I have a different Ignition assembly too?

I appreciate any help you can provide me.
Thanks.

Re: Ignition Lock Cylinder

I scoured the internet to no avail.
I suppose folks don't show how to change the lock to avoid teaching theives how to steal a prelude?

Nice cars you got there.

Re: Ignition Lock Cylinder

5th gens had a recall on something like this. You should call your honda dealer and see if your lude has any recalls to fulfill

Re: Ignition Lock Cylinder

It happened to me as well. I did my research, Prelude did have recall with those problems. I took the car to Honda dealer and they refused to replace it since I opened the whole thing just like you did. I paid $50 just for problem diagnostic at the dealer and ?$10 for worn out key parts. They told me that it is because worn out key and the lock housing. I figured out that the second option would be to delete the "L shaped metal and its tiny spring. I hope it works for you.
