2001 prelude cluster flashing

My car has been making a dinging and clicking sound from my dash, and I believe the cause was from putting my car on a battery charger. But it was only on for a few hours, so I'm wondering if charging while it was in the car still if it could have shorted something out? Any Ideas? Or solutions? My car does have an alarm but its never worked since I bought the car

Re: 2001 prelude cluster flashing

eh, battery tenders help keep a charge while connected to the battery...

first things first;

Test your battery and alternator.

Re: 2001 prelude cluster flashing

Dinging and clicking. When? While driving? At random? Can you be more specific?

Did you unhook the battery before charging it?
For future reference... You should. You don't have to. But should. Some older chargers go at it full blast while others as Wings mentioned use buffers.

Drive it to an auto center like advance and ask them to check your alternator. They usually do at no cost. If your alternator is good buy something like a jar of zip ties or a long needle nose from the $5 tool bin as a thank you gesture. They'll remember you.

Re: 2001 prelude cluster flashing

The charger won't do anything to your electrical system unless the terminals where reversed. Other than that you can put those chargers on battery's and close the hood and drive around for days if you wanted to,... It will only charge the battery. But yea, when does the clicking happen? Around where on the dash? Does your car start? Does your car stall? Need more info

For the second time;

Did you test your alternator and battery?

Since you for whatever reason replaced the battery prior to testing... have you tested the alternator yet?

Did you do any recent work to the car?

We can't help you if you ignore the questions and advice given.

After market alarm? It's probably that.

just because a battery is new...............

if people would invest in a good volt meter, these electrical threads would be fewer and farther between...

Re: 2001 prelude cluster flashing

its just the alarm that hasn't worked since he bought the car. the unit is clicking because it was activated, more than likely when you put it on the battery charger. it needs to be completely removed from the car.
