Miss shift over rev now having idle issues

Sunday I was on the highway in fourth gear at redline, went to put it into 5th but actually put it into 3rd and didn't notice until I let off the clutch. Engine over revved like hell but luckily I was able to quickly press in the clutch. Once I pressed in the clutch the car died but started right back up with no issues. Drove home and the car ran fine no loud knocking or any power loss but when I would press in the clutch the car would die and at idle it was missing, also noticed I had a slight valve tick nothing loud and went away when I pressed the gas but I never had a valve tick before. Afraid I bent valves I did a compression test, the engine was cold and gas pedal was all the way down and got these numbers
Cylinder 1 160psi
Cylinder 2 165psi
Cylinder 3 160psi
Cylinder 4 165psi
I was told those numbers are pretty low for a H22A4 but since they were only 5psi difference between them I was fine.
So I started the car and it runs fine cold (high idle) doesn't shut off on me or the idle drop really low but once it warms up and the idle goes to where it should be that's when it will drop super low and stall on me.
Friday I'm going to pull off the valve cover and checked my timing belt to see if it jumped a tooth and also do a valve adjustment.
Now my main question is why is it stalling on me and missing at idle?

Re: Miss shift over rev now having idle issues

Didn't you already have a minor idle issue? The idle/wot thing...
Did you get that resolved?

Re: Miss shift over rev now having idle issues

Never had a idle issue like this. My issue I posted earlier was running rich which is still an issue but after my miss shift it started doing this.

So... you're certain there's no relationship? Ok.

Re: Miss shift over rev now having idle issues

Could be a couple of things:

1.Compression. Since your numbers are so low, your air/fuel mix isn't being held in the chamber for combustion at lower rpms. Since you aren't generating the power to maintain compression, power is loss, and the car can't idle.

2.Valves. If bent enough, they won't translate energy into power and move the engine, also effecting your compression, and you won't be able to run at higher RPMs either

3.Timing. You skipped teeth, although you caught the mistake(kinda) bad timing will keep your car sidetracked until you check for TDC and check with a timing light.

4.You fugged up your distributor. Your car will only work while enough power goes through the distributor. I 'never experienced a dying distributor, but I have killed one or two over revving. If it's old get a new one. Worth looking into first.

Reason 1/2 are connected to each other(bad). The fourth issue is the one you're hoping for, although it's the least feasible. Let us know your findings.

Re: Miss shift over rev now having idle issues

My boss let me borrow his timing light so I'm going to be checking that tomorrow and see if I jumped a tooth.
I don't think I bent any valves, or at least I hope I didn't since the car drives fine like normal. No power loss, I haven't driven it hard but it easily climbs up to 4k rpm with no issues like before. I'm afraid to take it past that lol. Only when I slow down and press in the clutch is when the problem starts and the idle drops like normal but won't stop at 800 and will just die on me.

Re: Miss shift over rev now having idle issues

Saturday I pulled my valve cover off and timing covers to check my timing marks. Turns out I didn't jump a tooth, both cam marks matched up with each other and matched with the head, and the 3 arrows for the crank matched up along with the flywheel mark.
So I moved on to adjusting the valves, all exhaust valves were in spec but all the intake valves were super tight to where I couldn't get a 0.006in feeler gauge in. Adjusted all valves to 0.007in put everything back together and now the car doesn't die on me anymore at idle.
But I'm still getting a misfire code 1 and 3 cylinder but only at idle. It idles just fine but I can feel a shake and my CEL flashes but if I give it any gas or start to move it will stop flashing and the misfire will go away. It drives fine no power loss at all and doesn't misfire while driving.
Spark plugs are only a week old and look just fine, replaced the spark plug wires yesterday since I broke one of my NGK wires when I replaced the cap and rotor yesterday. I'm thinking this might be fuel related and might try swapping out injector 1 and 3 with ones from my parts engine. What do you guys think?

Re: Miss shift over rev now having idle issues

Also if it makes a difference I would get the same misfire code and shake in cylinder 1 and 3 after I ran the car hard before I miss shifted. Would take the car up to 6k+ and when I would come to a stop the car would misfire and cel blink at idle but all went away when given gas or I moved. But it would go away after a minute or two of driving and now it misfires all the time at idle.

Re: Miss shift over rev now having idle issues

Bump for some help.
Trying to solve my issue I've swapped out some parts I was told might be causing my misfire from my spare H22.
Replaced my Ignition control module, MAP sensor, changed out the spark plugs once more, and checked all my hoses for any vacuum leaks and all were good.
I'm going to put a bottle of seafoam in my gas tank tomorrow to see if maybe something is clogged up if that doesn't help them the injector swap will be done. But any tips or things you guys might think might be causing my issue please tell me.

Re: Miss shift over rev now having idle issues

Reset the ECU, after that, Dunno.

Fouled spark plugs maybe?

Re: Miss shift over rev now having idle issues

I reset the ECU after I changed each part. I've changed the spark plugs 3 times and no improvement. Helms manual doesn't help at all, just gives a list of parts that can be bad so I may just go down the list.

Re: Miss shift over rev now having idle issues

Dude, great thread. exact same problem after a miss shift. was VTECing down a steeeep hill in my first week with the car and went to 2nd instead of 4th from 3rd. caught it quickly and re applied te clutch, but next day valve tick. which is off because why not the same day? anyways this thread has been great for getting some insight.

EDIT: also, in 4th gear at 4k rpm it's jerky and slow when I get on the gas... and te valve tick goes away at higher rpm (or what I think is a valve tick...
