Icon5 Winter Mode?

Hey everyone, I live in Michigan and were starting to get some bad snow storms. My lude is lowered, and I mean low, for me that is, because I'm used to driving a truck. Clearance is probably 4"-5"... And I have 17" summer performance tires on it. They're wide, and the previous owner told me that it hasn't been taken out in the snow before. What do I need to do other than winter tires? (On that right now, getting stock tire size w/ some steelies.

I'm worried about salt also, I'll be washing the underbody as much as I can but I've heard you can't do much about the salt on the roads. My roads are notorious for slushy ice, that's the problem.

Tl;Dr need to winter-mode my vehicle. Help!

Cheers

Re: Winter Mode?

living in canada i have no choice but to deal with this winter stuff ... stock or smaller tire. skinny is usually better especially in snow. coolant as mentoned before. if it gets REALLY cold, let your car warm up before driving. Rust proof or undercoat your car is definetly better than nothing. if you dont have stelies, dab the brake the first few times you stop to remove slush, ice or snow from the brake pads ... being LOW doesnt help you in this weather lol. not much you can do about that but it doesnt affect that much. i see aLOT of slammed cars here even in the winter. OR just buy youself a cheap ass winter beater and call it a day lol.
having a TRUE cold air intake is also something you want to be careful for. mine was sitting just above the plastic piece that covers the bottom and one day i pulled out a chunk of ice that was stuck on the filer :S. since then i convert to short ram for winter and back to cold air in the summer

Good luck and happy birthday XD

Thanks man! Cheers! And I have an AEM cold air intake... That scares me bad. I'm picking up some winter tires and steelies tomorrow or monday. I need to find a place with a lift to coat the underbody I don't want that rusting out a all.

Re: Winter Mode?

Im also from MI, My car was slammed to the ground with stockers on Winter tires last year, never got stuck once. All you'll be doing is helping the city plow snow. lol. only downfall is that if you still want to be able to adjust your suspension or tweek em, you wont be able to because of rust.

Re: Winter Mode?

what he said lol. your body might not rust after only one winter. but your suspension components will take a hit. if its possible, rince them after everydrive. thats what i do and it save me!

Re: Winter Mode?

maybe once a week or so i head to the do-it-yourself car wash and pressure wash and rince the wells and try to get unferneath. and apply wax to protect vs the harsh times

Re: Winter Mode?

What is something you can do to prevent rust and damage if it doesn't go above freezing for the car to dry off? I want to wash it but don't need my suspension to be a block of ice.

Here are some pictures of my lude in the snowy madness in detroit at the moment. Flickr: richardsalem's Photostream

Measured it and clearance is about 7-8", not slammed, just lowered.

Re: Winter Mode?

Quebec here, 5th gen with H&R race + Koni Yellow, I mean slammed... No problem at all, just get good winter tires and rust treatment. Actually I love driving in snow. Long term car will rust for sure but what could we do.
