Bringing over an SiR Spec S over from Japan.

I've been putting some thought into this lately.

5th gens here are horrible and people ask for far too much for them.

I could get a stock/near stock SiR S Spec here for $6000 landed. No more than 120,000 km's, 5spd, LSD, that red top 220bhp H22A, loaded with whatever cool rare JDM options.

I call this my last ditch effort to have a good slice of the Prelude pie before I hang in the towel as I've had it with scumbags here thinking an automatic 5th gen with 200,000km's is worth $4000.

The Type S is another option of course...but the ATTS scares me away when there's a perfectly fine LSD in the SiR it overshadows, which should've came standard mated to all H22's to begin with.

Re: Bringing over an SiR Spec S over from Japan.

Is RHD something you can live with on a regular basis?

Think about it - drive throughs are all geared towards LHD making it a huge effort to do even normal things. Overtaking on the highway will be harder because you won't be able to see around the outside of the traffic ahead etc. Not trying to stop you from doing it, just trying to make sure you know what you're getting into here.

Do a LHD swap then and sell all the RHD stuff to some dingleberry that likes making their car undriveable because "JDM yO"

Re: Bringing over an SiR Spec S over from Japan.

My question is, where did you find an SiR for so cheap in Japan? All the ones I've seen have been ~4000+ which equates to around 8000 landed. I know a few people who have imported cars, and it is a lot more expensive than you think... I know a guy who imported a 22b, FOB price was 6000 and he ended up paying 11000 after everything was done and done..

Just be careful if you do decide to import a car, the fees are shady and there are many things to account for.

That being said, it would be really cool if you did!

Re: Bringing over an SiR Spec S over from Japan.

I think RHD is cool. But not necessarily for DD. I'd say bring one over, why not.

Random note, I almost bought an S14 RB25 swap the other day for $3000 because some super rich kid (or I should say rich kids dad) traded it in at a dealership. He was asking $12,000 for it on eBay and CL, but sold out for a new Raptor because he had too much money. I had to share with you guys because I was BUMMED I didn't get it. It was sold when I got there at 7:30 the next morning. Moral of the story when you want something and it is a good deal, GO FOR IT.

Re: Bringing over an SiR Spec S over from Japan.

Is it really worth it? As nice as S-SPEC's are (A friend of mine has one) it will surely be a ball ache to do. I knew of someone who was moving to the US and wanted to take their SI VTEC 4th gen with them. They found out that it would be almost impossible to get the car registered in the US.

IMO just buy a 5th gen base and put an aftermarket LSD in it. True you wont have the same seats, gauges etc....

Ah yes, the good old "you have to wait 25 years" rule that Mercedes was responsible for. There are exemptions to the rule, but they're very specific (for example, you can import an R33 Skyline as long as it was made after 1996). There are also other loopholes but I've never really researched them. LHD foreign-market 4th gens can be imported into the US as long as they're brought into compliance with the US standards at the time they were produced, while JDM 94-97 Accords, which were actually built in the US, can be brought in as is. At any rate, 4th gens are almost old enough that even a RHD one can be brought in under the 25 year exemption...I think we'll be able to get them starting in 3 more years.

Can people explain why it'd be so hard to drive an RHD car in a LHD country? Oh, and be sure that the answers are coming from people who have actually driven a RHD car instead of side line guessing it

RHD is a great car to have if your job is delivering mail to rural mailboxes.

Can't say the US Mail sign on the roof would look real sporty.
