My Prelude

As some of you may know about a year ago I joined the forums and shortly after posted my first post about me being 16 with my dream car.

Thread: http://www.preludezone.com/new-membe...member-pz.html

Forgive me I have no idea how to size photo's lol

When I first got her:

Well shortly after that introductory post I took the Prelude to my father who is a Honda tech at a dealer to take a look at it since I neglected to tell him that I bought a Prelude( He hates preludes, even though he owned the cleanest 3rd gen I have ever seen in Ohio, a 1990 White Si with about 100k on the Odometer when he sold it) Anyways He told me the car basically needed 1000 dollars worth of parts and that was for non dealer parts and doing my own labor. So
All new suspension bushings
Tie rods- and originally bought tie rods for a base model(which are longer than sh)
Welded exhaust leak
complete engine tune up
all new brakes, and new rear calipers
Rewiring ghetto rigged stereo
cleaning every intake sensor/ device
All new belts incl timing belt and balancer belt
KS manual tensioner
New tensioner pulleys
New used power steering H/P line.
All new engine seals such as
Front main
balancer shaft seal
cam seals
cam cap seals
distributor o ring
oil cooler o ring(The hardest one on my cramped SH, damn ATTS in the way lol)
after this i only leaked oil from my oil pan gasket and it was very little compared to huge oil blotches on the driveway from before.
Change transmission fluid
flushed all other fluids
Oh and needed four tires since the current ones where completely gone.
I ended up getting 2 Hankook Ventues V4 HS with 70% tread for the front
and 2 FREE Goodyear Eagle F1's i believe for the rear with 50% tread came off another prelude too lol.
There is more too but this is the most of it.

At the time when I bought my car I knew nothing, I knew how to do an oil change and take the wheels off a car. Now a year later I feel confident on do an engine swap(on another prelude) on my own, while taking my time of course.

Then In march everything was back together and my car was road worth.. almost

Right when we pulled her outta the garage, first time since december shes all dusty and as you can see I put on a 99-01 grill on

Wow these huge pictures that were taken by a low resolution cell phone camera are pretty awful huh. lol

So when I said "almost" There where still a couple things that needed to be worked out, the most pressing one was the fact that the outer tie rods i bought where for a base which are longer and caused horrible toe in even when fully adjusted.

Thread: Finally drove my Prelude.

Well ever since I bought my car my odometer was stuck at 204,000 miles so who knew how many miles Tomoko (sometimes call her that, deal with it hahaha ) actually had. So I remembered seeing that 1BadBB6 was doing an AP1 cluster swap, so I asked if he had his old cluster and if he would sell it, well he did, and part of the agreement was the I give him the bezel off my old one so he could try to fit it on and around his s2k cluster. I sent him the whole cluster, I didn't want to fux the bezel up taking it apart.

During the Amazing couple months, besides finding out Cylinder one has low compression and 88% leakage rate and being reason my car sounded wonky at idle and very rarely misfired. Anyways I new my motor was on its way out so I started planning for an end of the summer swap (again sorry for the picture sizes)

So anyways after two or so amazing months with my Lude and around mid June, the timing belt gets ripped to shreds and VC snaps all due to the accessory bracket bolt for the driver side engine mount directly below the center of both cam gears. Apparently I never tightened it down i just twisted it on and forgot to tightened that... yeah not good. Can't see in pic but that bolt went between the cam gears shot a hole through the timing belt and hit the vc with enough force to do that.

Damage:

Well like any normal reaction, I freaked out, and went into the fetal position and cried. lol jk I discussed with my stepdad and he agreed to spot me the 3 grand as long a I paid him back for a JDM H22a w/ a T2T4 LSD 5 speed, Fidanza flywheel and Exedy OEM clutch.

The motor had 44k
T2T4 had 42k
I also got a half shaft from them because I was basically turning my SH into a base.
and I got them from Hmotorsonline

Thread:Another Prelude Down

During the time when my car was going to out of commission for a a couple weeks waiting for my engine and tranny to ship, my Uncle let me use his 2000 Chevy Cavalier to drive. During the time I had two jobs and was working about 70 hours a week and when I could have been sleeping or resting I was with my girlfriend or as of yesterday ex girlfriend till late, well during late June on my way back from Maple Height from her house I'm in a car lacking a stereo or any heat(didnt roll windows down so i didn't freeze my ass) I dozed off and hit a fire hydrant totaling the cavalier. One of my punishments was to sell my Prelude. I sold it for 2k, the old motor and tranny and the new motor and tranny and the car itself. Which I had about 8k into the car when I sold it. Still the worst thing I ever had to go through, I miss my car every day. After all the time my stepdad and I spent fixing almost everything on it which was about 5 months till I even first drove my car all the money invested, but after driving the car all the hard work paid off because I have never experienced such pleasure as I did when driving that car.

Anyways the motor and trans arrive a week or so later(awful quality photo i know)

The thing was clean enough to eat off of, but wasnt mine anymore.

So anyways I sold the car in a day to a.... buddy of mine for 2k it included everything, we finish the swap, and he has his new car. Well in the few months that he owned it, he effed up the driver fender, ripped the exhaust off, scratched the **** out of it, IDFK how the hell he managed to do that and rode her hard and didn't give a **** what happened to her. Well he traded the Lude for a Del Slo a couple weeks ago so I probably will never see her again, well maybe but probably not. Hopefully the next owner treats my old lude better than he did. That was heartbreaking watching someone else beat the **** out of you pride and joy.

Anyways I'm gonna get another Lude, but this time a 6k no rust from down south mint one. Hopefully next year, but who know wth I will be doing next year. I would like to get a 97-98 Flamenco Black Pearl SH preferably a 97 Stock but if I find a different one that's mint and a deal I wont pass it up.

For the winter Im looking at 2500 HD's with plows and plowing during the winter and making some serious money like enough to pay for the truck I just bought and give me another 10-12k in the bank.

And for the next lude I was thinking J35a8 swap out of a TL-S or RL

And either a CL-S or TL-S 6 speed LSD Trans.

Whenever Innovative get those mount done for Leavemdroolin and put the mounts for sale for the public everything will be available for our cars getting J swapped.

^^This is one of my few long term goals

P.S. There was a bunch more I wanted to write but its time for bed so this is good enough. And thanks to PZ's information and resources and the fellow members helping me learn, Ya'll are great!

EDIT: Forgot to create a good title for the thread before posting, oh well. lol

Re: My Prelude

Thanks guys.

My lude was one of the cleanest in the area(most are rotting out, and , and for having over 200k miles and being a northern ohio 90's Honda Its surprising it hasn't rotted away. It had bubbling on both quarter panels.

Re: My Prelude

Wow, i was reading this and was all like, " This is going to be a great story, he saved a prelude, hes fixing it, new engine, its going to be beautiful." Then as i kept reading it turned into a sob story and i felt hurt. LOL. I wouldn't of sold it, i would pretend. there is way too much money invested in that! The day i influence my dad to help me buy an engine swap is the day i know im forever trapped with my prelude. ( i already am though so it doesn't really matter.)

Re: My Prelude

There was nothing I could do, my stepdad was pissed enough at the time to scrap it. He gave me a week or its getting scrapped, I panicked and sold it for 2k immediately after. I sold it to my buddy with the intent of buying her back when I turned 18 this upcoming spring but well that's not happening.

Re: My Prelude

Sounds like a not so good buddy….. I did the almost the same thing with my 3rd 4th gen when I was about 19 or so. I thought I wanted a Del Sol and traded a buddy for it and we both "agreed" to take really good care of the cars just incase we ended up trading back after a month or so…. Well… I took really good care of the P.O.S. Del Slow and when I decided I had to have my car back I made the call and when he brought it to me there were scratches down the side and a dent in the rear quarter panel…. I was furious!! and after that never looked at trading or selling to a friend again. If I ever sell it (never going to happen btw) I would want someone I don't know to have it lol. But keep your eyes peeled and you'll find a good deal one day.

Re: My Prelude

none about my old car guy i sold it to sold her shortly there after. For now im just going to work save up money for a cheap four banger as a dd. My 6.0l v8 isnt friendly on gas. Im also saving up to move out of my house. as for a prelude im tossing around a few ideas, one is a imported rhd prelude(bb8 4ws) another is a v6 swap. idk both are costly. one thing for sure is im definitly geting a mint fifth gen. one day hopefully 2015

Doing as much research as i can for importation seem possible for about 8-10 grand to buy one and get one legalized, legalization will be the hardest part.

hmm V6 RHD BB8 4WS Prelude or is that idea too crazy lol.

edit: thanks for checking in lazarky

From day 1 you were doomed, you went behind your parents back and bought a car, you were just a kid.
I'm not sure if you finished school/thinking of going to college/University, instead of thinking of your next project car, get an education, you'll be thankful you did in the future.

i dont live with my dad i live with my mother and stepdad, as a minor i couldnt buy a car without a parent, my stepdad and mom supported me buying the prelude i knew my dad wouldnt but my heart was set on a prelude. im just about done with school, and am not going to college. Also i bought an 05 2500Hd lets just say they arent cheap im make gobs, litterally gobs of money for my age. Im also not going to explain how i got to where im at in terms of work im just extremely luckly. ill leave it at that. i even stated im waiting a couple years for my next "project" car. But first thing first im focusing on priorites such as a house and a daily driver aside from my work truck. I understand what your saying about telling me to get an education but you dont know me, or my situation, and in my situation i already have it figured out. And thats thanx to a great individual im not going to be a deadbeat bum outta school.

Also I apollogize for any poor grammar/punctuation im using a touch screen and am in a rush.

I hope your cool with working that job for the rest of your life. Take it from me I was making $25,000 a year right out of high school and said f*** College. 5 years later the company I worked for closed, I struggled to feed myself and pay rent. Not saying your company will close but you have to be ready for anything. Good luck with finding another Lude. And it's real cool that your pops is a honda tech!

Good luck bud, understand one thing, today you can be raking in cash, 5 years from now, things can change.
But if you have everything figured out already at 18, your definately not going to take anyone's advice.

I understand what your saying, i orginally wanted to go to college and train is be an overhead lineman, like mystepfather, but there was nowhere for training an I school for that nearby anymore.

I also know **** can change in a short time, i always try to keep a back up plan if my idea, job, school whatever it may be fails or turns out different than i expected. I try to premptively prepare just in case. If all else fails my district manager roofing grandfather said i could be a roofer whenever i want.lol

I would like to think im more prepared than other people my age, but thats just my opinion lol. For now I will do what i do now, and see what happens and focus onthe prioities in my life.

I aprecciate you guys giving me advice i have thought about this immensly and have decided this is the best route to take, for now. If something changes hopefully im prepared and if not hopefully i can figure something out.

Re: My Prelude

Life is a river. It carries you wherever it wants to.

All the preparation, college, skills and planning can get you downstream a little smoother, but you are going there anyway. Don't get stuck in an edy. Keep moving. Even if it's backwards, you're still heading towards your destiny as long as you're moving.

Sounds like you are ready to jump in. Things come and go. Cars, people, places n things. Enjoy the journey and don't sweat the details.
Before you know it you'll be 40
And words you heard your parents say will be popping out of your mouth. Worse, it'll make sense!!

Most of all, don't get too attached to anything of this earth. It can be gone in the blink of an eye. Usually replaced by something better in time.

If you've taken a weekend float trip down a river... starts out in the hills with all it's youthful rapids and ends in a giant bay with a vast skyline. It's the in between that's the most stressful, but also the most enjoyable so long as you keep a positive, sober attitude.
I'm nearing the 'bay' part of life. Looking back sometimes keeps me focused on the amazing journey that still awaits.

I never planned out squat. I just did my best in the moment, tried to stay aimed at the direction life seemed to be taking me and kept moving. Most people I look up to took the same approach. You do your best, be honest n faithful to those around you and marvel at the lucky breaks.

You're gonna do well 1606.

Close that door. We aren't trying to heat the whole city.
