Anyone have a write-up on removing an A/C from a 5th gen.

I bent/ruptured my high pressure line for the A/C and am seriously considering removing it all together. I have been looking for a step-by-step write-up for the process. No luck yet. I figure it will be cheaper to remove it, than try and replace the HP line. I don't ever use it anyways and it will lighten up the car and lower the draw through the main serpentine belt as well. Less weight and less draw equals more power. ;-) If anyone has the write-up please post it here, it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!!!

Re: Anyone have a write-up on removing an A/C from a 5th gen.

Just remove all a/c components, and then take some twine, tie it around the pulleys for the alternator, bring that to autozone, get the belt that size, and the 2 below and above for safe measure, install new belt, return other 2 belts. Make sure you ask about return policy after the packaging being opened. Done

I got most of the front end, should have pretty good access. I just wonder if there is a delete kit and write up on it. I found some shoddy write-ups on Google but am gonna keep looking until I find a good and clear one.[IMG]

I've seen a 5th gen delete somewhere...

ENG: 4gp Air Condition delete

^^ This 4g delete should shed some light though.

Thanks, bykfixer! Granted its for the 4th gen but seems to be more detailed than what I found on Google.

Re: Anyone have a write-up on removing an A/C from a 5th gen.

You can follow that writeup pretty much for everything, other than locations.... Key is, it's an h22 in that writeup, which means as long as your 5th gen has an h22 in it, same belt size that you will need. It is probably same as h23a1 too but I don't have that verified, anyone wanna shed light on that?

Curious, how did you basically destroy your high line? (the long silver line that runs from the firewall and beneath the intake) It's rather simple to replace...

If you are really looking to just remove it due to a simple problem;

Remove all lines within the engine bay starting at the firewall. Since you've already released the refrigerant, no sense in having it drained properly. However keep in mind that the lines still have fluid in them and it will stain whatever it comes in contact with. Expect to get messy.

Remove the compressor and condenser, as well as the drier and other misc lines.

You can go further and remove the box beneath the dash.

The belt required for the delete is a 6 rib 36" belt.

Cool is right - no more sunburn on those hot summer days while hanging out the window!

Those i've been fortunate enough to meet in person, and the few members of Central and another small community are the only ones that have seen my build thread/car.

Actually, I took my time with a bunch of measuring, researching and parts trial/error in order to get a proper working setup.

All with great help from ogsmakdade. With his refrigeration knowledge, line bending skills, and persistence in making me go through with what started out to be a crazy idea.

Re: Anyone have a write-up on removing an A/C from a 5th gen.

I bent/ruptured the high pressure line in a close encounter with a tree. In the photo above is my bumper...bent in half. Hehe!

The reason I am considering the delete of my A/C system is it has never really worked well, it really draws on my motor, and it think the compressor clutch was going out.
