Icon5 VTEC solenoid

Hey guys, I have done some research but haven't found anything saying why...

I have an Australian VTI-R Prelude with the h22a4, I was looking at my VTEC solenoid and noticed that it doesn't have the green plug on it.

Mine is like the one on the left with the screw...

Whats the green plug for and do I need one and is it bad that I don't have one?

Thanks in advanced. :)

Re: VTEC solenoid

It is an oil pressure sensor. All JDM's have it while some others do or don't. The H22a2 I had in my 4th gen did have one, the H22a I dropped in there did as well, while my H22a8 in my 5th doesn't.

If your car doesn't have one from the factory you don't need it.

Re: VTEC solenoid

Ah okay! Thanks for the info.

Just out of curiosity if its a pressure sensor would that mean you could connect a gauge to it?

Re: VTEC solenoid

I suppose you could remove the blanking bolt and try to attach a sensor for a gauge there. I don't know the thread of that bolt. Although the best place for a pressure sensor is the OEM oil pressure warning sensor location on the back of the block.

Re: VTEC solenoid

It's a pressure sensor in that, if there is not enough the extra kick by the cams are stopped from begining. Like the knock sensor it's a self preservation tool to keep the upper engine from destroying itself from lack of oil pressure.
