5th Gen won't crank

So I have been away for 5 months on active duty orders, anyways my prelude sat for that time. Wife was suppose to crank ever now and again but didn't. So I get home and tried to crank it, First it was the battery was dead bought a new one, then I tried to crank it again, Starter was whining so I got a new one. Now all it will do is try to crank but won't. I checked for air, fuel, and spark. Def have fuel you can smell it when I try to crank it and I pulled the plugs and they were wet. Air checked the intake no rats nest or anything. Now on to spark I checked all fuses and all are good, I looked online and reading other threads I went and got a new ignition coil, distributor cap, and rotor. Just put all that on and nothing. What next or what should I check. I wasn't hear to know what it did last and my wife's explanation is that it did what its doing now. Help please.

Are you getting any spark to the plugs?

Re: 5th Gen won't crank

What I would do is replace the fuel filter and drain the gas tank and add new 93 octane gas with a can of sea foam. Before I start digging in deaper but thats just me.
Good luck

Re: 5th Gen won't crank

I don't know that fuel would be the issue. I left both my cars sit for three months while deployed both this year and last, without anyone touching the...both fired right up when I got back.

This is a long shot, because I've never seen one act up while cold, but maybe the main relay's gone bad. Turn the key to "ON" -- if it's working, you should hear the fuel pump hum for a moment, then a click. If no click, replace the relay -- it's up under the dash, next to the steering column. (Search on "main relay", and you'll get more detail.)

Re: 5th Gen won't crank

I just went and turned the key to on, fuel pump hummed then heard a click from under the dash when the indicators went out. I hate to do it but I'm going to have to send it to a shop.

Re: 5th Gen won't crank

Did you bother checking the fuel supply system diagnostics in the service manual?? They have a chart where one of the issues is a no start..........

Stop just replacing parts, it's not gonna fix your issue, and will run your wallet.

Did you check your fuel pressure?

And checking for bad gas is not a bad idea... Drain the tank, replace with new, you can try seafoam with it, doesn't matter. Just because it didnt matter for one person does not mean it won't for another. The climate, condensation, etc, even the difference of cars will have affect too.

Did you try the spray starter fluid, and attempt that?

There's more low to no cost tests you can do in one day, before you pay a shop just for a diagnosis...

Re: 5th Gen won't crank

Maybe give it a quick shot of starting fluid... if she don't even try to go, then it's likely something electrical.
Does the imobilizer stop the car from cranking at all or just from firing up?

Hopefully you have a mechanic you can trust to go to Eg6. Sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
After about 15-20 hours trying to find an electrical issue in one of my cars I'm gonna break down and take it to my mechanic and probably pay him $75 to fix a loose wire or something simple...

Re: 5th Gen won't crank

Yeah I'm going to get some starter fluid tomorrow and see if that does the trick, if that doesnt work I'm going to just go ahead and send it to the mechanic. I know I'm giving up but I need the car and I don't have time to mess with it. Besides I'm going to put a H22a in it soon. I had a typeS in my 95 civic hatch, traded that car for the lude. I have always wanted one and they are getting harder to find.

Re: 5th Gen won't crank

Why an h22a if you already have an h22 in it??

I'm guessing you have an h22a4? The h22a produces same power as the a4... Unless you are talking about the type S.

You should get an a7, euro R engine or the h23a vtec from the accord siR

Re: 5th Gen won't crank

Yeah I'm leaning more towards the H23 blue top. Update I tried starter fluid and nothing I got new plug wires and an ICM, nothing this is very frustrating to say the least.

Re: 5th Gen won't crank

Ok I got it cranked and running, all it took was lubing the rings, So this will get me buy until I order a H23a.

Re: 5th Gen won't crank

Glad to hear... I guess if you leave it again some mystery oil on the pistons before storing is in order.
